Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced immediate aid and support from the government, as well as the establishment of a transportation route on Monday, following his visit to the disaster-affected areas around Naga and Sankalan under the Lachen-Mangan and Dzongu Constituency of North Sikkim on Friday.
Tamang stated that the topmost priority is to restore road connectivity to North Sikkim, a region severely impacted by the floods. He emphasized the urgency of establishing a transportation route to ensure essential supplies can reach the affected areas and urged the public to cooperate in this effort.

While interacting with the public, he assured them of aid and support from the government, urging everyone to cooperate and work unitedly to overcome the crisis. Tamang inspected the affected areas and damaged infrastructure.
A meeting has been scheduled with Zilla and ward members of Toong Naga GPU, along with representatives of GREF, BRO, and officials from concerned departments.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also urged the public to cooperate and stressed on the need for a joint survey immediately. He also discussed the matter of relocating the people from 17 houses in Toong ward and 15 houses in Rel ward that require prompt relocation to a stable area. The process of relocation will begin within a month through active consultation with the local people. He also mentioned the necessity of forming a technical team to thoroughly assess the communication issue.
Acknowledging the complete destruction of the Sankalan Bridge in Dzongu, he announced the installation of a 55m long Bailey bridge to restore vehicular movement. Furthermore, a zip line has been set up with local assistance to facilitate the transportation of groceries and essential items to Dzongu, which is currently cut off from the rest of the region.

Tamang also visited the relief camp located at ITI Chadey, where 32 families from the affected areas have been sheltered. He handed over financial aid for emergency purposes to the family members.
CM PS Tamang meets MoS Home Affairs, discusses flood situation
Ajay Kumar Mishra, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India, met with Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang at his official residence, Mintokgang, on Sunday morning.
During the meeting, the two leaders had extensive discussions about the extent of the damages caused by the disaster. Mishra informed the Chief Minister about his meeting with the Chief Secretary and senior officers of the state government, as well as the Army and other concerned agencies. He also shared details about his visit to the affected areas in Rangpo and Singtam yesterday.
Tamang expressed gratitude to Union MoS for the timely visit and appreciated the prompt response from the Government of India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Chief Minister also thanked the central leadership for releasing the advance budget for NDRF and SDRF for 2023-24, enabling the state to commence relief and restoration work promptly, appreciating the Inter-Ministerial team’s visit to assess the damage.
Tamang also approised the MoS about his visits to the affected areas in Rangpo, Singtam and parts of Mangan district, and the rescue and relief work being carried out by all the concerned agencies, with active support and participation from the local people.
Mishra said that the central government is committed to providing all the required support to the state to bring back normalcy.
