In a shocking incident at Delhi’s Connaught Place, a pornographic video was briefly played on a digital advertisement board, causing chaos in one of the busiest markets in the national capital, reported PTI. The incident occurred late on Thursday night when the explicit content was displayed on a board in the H-block of the market.
According to the police, the video played for only a few seconds before it was swiftly removed with the assistance of officials from the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC). A passerby who witnessed the scene promptly notified the police and recorded the incident on his phone. The incident attracted a large crowd, creating a commotion in the bustling marketplace.
Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. The police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
The NDMC has suggested that the incident could be a result of the digital billboard being “hacked” using sophisticated technology. The civic body clarified that it operates two types of panels in the area: one for advertisements and another with interactive touchscreen capabilities. Both panels, they stated, are of international standards and are managed by a secure server protected by firewalls and antivirus software. Additionally, the NDMC provides free public Wi-Fi hotspots in its jurisdiction.
Connaught Place, a historic commercial hub in the heart of Delhi, sees thousands of visitors daily, with foot traffic increasing significantly on weekends. The unexpected display of explicit content shocked onlookers and raised concerns about the security of digital advertising platforms in public spaces.
This incident is not the first of its kind. A similar event occurred last year in Patna, Bihar, where a pornographic video was mistakenly aired on a display screen intended for advertisements at a railway station. The Railway Protection Force quickly intervened to halt the footage.
Authorities are treating the Connaught Place incident with utmost seriousness, and efforts are underway to prevent such occurrences in the future.
