Rahul Gandhi’s ‘khaat’ panchayat in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh turned into an aggressive scramble for the ‘khatiyas’ today as people fought to take possession of the wooden cots. As soon as Rahul ended his speech, people started fighting over the wooden cots. Those who managed to grab one took it home. Men, women and even children were seen carrying the woodden cots — some on bikes, some on cycle and some even carried them cots on their head.

In a bid to return to power in Uttar Pradesh after 27 years, the Congress today kicked off 2500-km Deoria to Delhi ‘Kisan Yatra’ from Panchlari Kritpura village. Rahul is expected to have similar ‘khaat’ panchayats in several villages where the Congress party has arranged the wooden cots, which are mostly used by villagers. The ‘khatia’ loot, however, triggered the funny bones always eager of Twitterati. Here are some of the hilarious tweets.

During his address to the panchayat, Rahul said that the Narendra Modi-led government has failed to address the woes of farmers. Through the ‘Kisan Rally’, Rahu said, “We will propose three demands to PM Modi — waving of farmers’ loans, reduction in electricity tariff and an increase in the minimum support price for farmers’ produce.”
