Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly expressed ‘unhappiness’ over the media coverage of the ongoing violent protests in Kashmir during a high-level meeting to review the situation in the valley on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by top ministers and officials where they briefed him about slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

In the meeting, the PM is believed to have expressed ‘unhappiness’ over the media coverage for portraying Wani as a “hero” even as he was working for disintegration of the country.

As soon as the news went out, a lot of people took to social media to comment over PM’s ‘unhappiness’. Scores of them, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, retweeted and shared the news on social media.

Taking a dig on the PM, user R Khuria tweeted, “PM Modi expresses ‘unhappiness’ over media coverage of Kashmir” In fact no one died, all deaths were Media creation. How dumb he can be!!”

Twitter user Swami Iyer drew an analogy with journalist Arnab Goswami, who has been vigorously debating the Kashmir violence in his prime time shows. “NM expresses ‘unhappiness’ over media coverage of Kashmir:Arnab ahead of NM,” he tweeted.

The range of comments varied from being moderate to extreme, a lot of them were even abusive.

While some social media users attacked the media, some even criticised the PM.

Reacting to Financial Express’ post about this news on Facebook, Sanjeeb Kumar Bardhan said, “Open your mouth Modi and speak to people of JK in their suffering . Election time you can go ten times to JK but now you do not even communicate with them ? Another inefficient is Rajnath Singh . Why local state govt was not involved in Delhi meeting ?”

One user, Rajat Srivastava wondered “if the Press Council of India was in a sleep mode.”

“Seriously, is the Press Council of India in a sleep mode??It was envisioned as the media watchdog, as the upholder of media ethics. Cant they see the irresponsible manner in which the media is behaving??”

Interestingly, PM’s ‘unhappiness’ was widely covered by media.
