Parliament Budget Session 2025 LIVE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached the Lower House to reply to the Motion of Thanks in the Lok Sabha. This comes amid heated debates in the ongoing Budget session, with government and Opposition members clashing over several issues, including the Kumbh Mela stampede and statements made by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
Keypoints of PM Modi’s speech at Parliament Budget Session 2025:
- Some people feel they are not mature enough if they don’t talk about foreign policy, even at the cost of the nation.
- If you cannot respect a woman President from a poor family, it is fine. But what all is being said to insult her (Draupadi Murmu). Why?
- We started Ayushman Bharat for poor, but some states have stalled the scheme, leaving poor people in hardship.
- Some people chose the path of tushtikaran (appeasement); we have chosen santushtikaran (satisfaction for people). The real social justice, secularism and respect for the constitution is 100-% saturation of schemes.
- Before 2014, there were 387 medical colleges in India. Today, there are 780 medical colleges. The number of seats has increased with more medical colleges. Before 2014, there were 7700 SC seats in medical colleges; now the number is 17000.
- Those who walk with the constitution in their pocket do not know how they had compelled Muslim women to live a life full of trouble. By ending instant triple talaq, we have given Muslim women their rights.
- When power is made hereditary, democracy ends. We built the Statue of Unity for Sardar Patel, who united the country, despite the fact that he wasn’t from the Jana Sangh.
- Some leaders speak the language of urban naxals, and talk of waging war against the Indian state, they cannot understand the Constitution.
- Those who live with the Constitution in their pockets, forget how they pushed Muslim women into hardships.
- Earlier, PMs used to make appointments of Chief Election Commissioners at will, we brought law to involve the Leader of Opposition.
- We live by spirit of the Constitution and do not resort to politics of poison.
- Has this parliament ever seen three MPs from the same family from the SC community? Has this parliament ever seen three MPs from the same family from the ST community? These two questions expose those who are doing the politics of caste.
- The population of 25 crore has been lifted from poverty.
- Served real development to people.
- Need experience and spirit to address middle-class aspirations.
- 4 cr houses given to poor.
- People doing photo sessions at Jhuggis.
- People in mansions will find poor’s narrative boring.
- Talk on social media about leaders focussed on jacuzzi, stylish showers, but our focus on providing water to every home.
- We did not give false slogans, but true development to people.
- Pain of poor, troubles of common man, cannot be understood just like that; it requires passion, some just don’t have it.
- Our motto is people’s money for the people.
- Huge spike in infra budget in NDA regime.
- Earlier corruption dominated headlines.
- No income tax on Rs. 12.75 lakh earnings from April 2025.
- The removal of Rs 10 crore fake beneficiaries prevented Rs. 3 lakh crore from going into wrong hands.
- We had a Prime Minister who was called Mr Clean out of fashion. He had said if Re 1 leaves Delhi, 15 paise reach the village. At that time only one party was in power.
- We tried to find a solution. We brought Jana Dhan and Aadhar. We sent money directly to people through Direct Benefit Transfer. We have sent Rs. 40 lakh crore directly into people’s accounts.
- Double AI- Artificial Intelligence and Aspirational India- India’s strength.
- We believe in spending resources towards public welfare; our model dovetails savings and development.
- A PM who used to chant ’21st century’ was so far from reality that he was unable to provide for needs of the 20th century.
- Our govt saved money but did not use it to build a ‘Sheesh Mahal’.
- We are working for youths, but some parties are fooling them by promising doles they cannot fulfill.
- We have opened up the civil nuclear sector and it will have far-reaching implications.
- Talking about castes has become a fashion for some.
Budget and Motion of Thanks
On the first day of the Budget session, the President had addressed both Houses of Parliament. Since then, debates on the Motion of Thanks have been ongoing. The Budget discussions are set for February 6, 7, 10, and 11, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responding to the Budget debate on February 11.
Debate around Rahul Gandhi’s claims
During the Monday session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized Rahul Gandhi for spreading falsehoods in his speech. Gandhi had claimed that an INDIA bloc government would not have sent External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to the US for an invitation to the Prime Minister’s visit to the American president’s coronation. Gandhi also raised concerns about the denial of Chinese forces in India and the surge of voters in Maharashtra’s electoral rolls. Rijiju accused Gandhi of undermining the dignity of the Lok Sabha and said the Opposition leader’s remarks were false and baseless.
Criticism over Kumbh Mela stampede
The Opposition had raised concerns about the government’s handling of the Kumbh Mela stampede in Prayagraj, which led to multiple deaths. MPs from parties such as DMK, Samajwadi Party, and Trinamool Congress strongly criticised the government for its negligence ad failure to ensure the safety of the pilgrims. DMK MP Kanimozhi expressed her grief and accused the government of failing to protect the public.
She also highlighted the uncertainty surrounding the number of deaths in the stampede. Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Chandra Uttam Patel and Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar joined in condemning the government’s response, especially the limited mention of the incident in the President’s Address.
As the Budget session continues, the Opposition is demanding a more accountable government response regarding the stampede tragedy and the death toll. The upcoming sessions are expected to be contentious, with all eyes on PM Modi’s response to the Motion of Thanks.
