Jammu and Kashmir: Three terrorists were neutralised on Thursday in a joint anti-terror operation conducted by the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu & Kashmir Police in the Tral region of Pulwama district. The encounter occurred in the Nader area of Awantipora and was launched based on specific intelligence inputs.

Identification of terrorists

The deceased terrorists have been identified as Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani, and Yawar Ahmed Bhat. Security forces recovered three AK-series rifles, 12 magazines, three grenades, and other war-like stores from the site.

What is Operation Nader?

The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the successful operation on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Three hardcore terrorists have been eliminated in the ongoing operation at Nader, Awantipora.”

According to officials, suspicious movement was detected by troops early Thursday morning. Upon being challenged, the terrorists opened heavy fire, leading to a fierce gunfight. The Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps noted: “Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened heavy fire and a fierce gunfight ensued.”

This is the second such high-profile encounter this week. On May 13, three LeT terrorists, including operational chief Shahid Kuttay, were killed in an encounter in Shopian district. These intensified operations come in the wake of the brutal killing of 26 civilians by LeT terrorists in Pahalgam on April 22.
