Five people were killed and 12 got injured when a tanker overturned over a roadside tea stall resulting in a head-on collision with a bus in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday morning. The tragic mishap happened on National Highway 59 near Samarjhola in Hinjili.
One person on the bus and four who were sitting at the tea stall lost their lives
The tanker involved in the incident was heading towards Aska whereas the bus was travelling from Bhawanipatna to Berhampur. One person who lost his life was travelling on the bus whereas four other people who got killed were seated at the tea stall. Four people died on the spot while the fifth one died during treatment at the hospital, according to police.
The District Collector Divya Jyoti Parida stated, ”Five deaths have been confirmed till now,” however, the identities of the deceased have yet not been made. A team of firefighters along with police are working together to restore the traffic by clearing the highway.
Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for severely injured
Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conveyed his condolences and has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for those who have sustained severe injuries.
All the injured people were taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for medical treatment. Out of 13 injured people, two are in critical condition, as stated by officials.
