A 26-year-old woman tragically lost her life after being struck by a speeding SUV in the Malad area of Mumbai on Tuesday night, police reported on Wednesday. The incident occurred in the Gudiya Pada locality around 10 pm, involving a Ford Endeavor driven by a merchant navy officer, reports PTI.

The victim, identified as Shahana Kaazi, was walking in the area when the car hit her. Following the accident, the driver, Anup Sinha, immediately transported Shahana to a nearby hospital in an attempt to save her life. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

An official from the Malad police station confirmed that the accused, who has an office in Andheri, was on leave at the time of the incident. Sinha was promptly arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have also seized the vehicle involved in the accident.

To determine whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, authorities have collected a blood sample from Sinha. Further investigation is underway.

On August 28, a 24-year-old man in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, sustained serious injuries after being thrown into the air when a speeding car struck him in a hit-and-run incident. CCTV footage captured the moment when the vehicle hit the man, Rohit Sakharam Happe, from behind, sending him flying due to the impact. The car then sped away, leaving the victim with severe injuries to his head and both legs.

Similarly, in July, a BMW car ran over two people riding a bike in Mumbai’s Worli. The incident resulted in the death of a woman, while the other person sustained injuries. The accident occurred at 5:30 am as the couple was riding past Atria Mall in Worli.
