Mumbai Heavy Rains Highlights: Early morning showers in Delhi on Friday led to significant waterlogging, disrupting traffic across several areas of the city, officials reported. The Delhi Traffic Police issued alerts to commuters, advising them to use alternative routes due to road blockages caused by waterlogging and sewer overflow. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for Mumbai and its suburbs, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD’s press release also noted that isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall are anticipated over the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra from July 25 to 27, Konkan & Goa on July 25 and 26, and Gujarat on July 25. Red alerts have been issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Satara districts on July 26.

Approximately 400 people were evacuated to safety on Thursday due to flooding in Pune’s Sinhagad Road and other riverbank areas, following incessant rains, officials reported. Two Army columns were deployed in the severely affected Sinhagad Road area. Additionally, teams from the NDRF, fire brigade, and district and city disaster management cells were mobilized for relief operations. Water inundated several housing societies and homes in low-lying areas along Sinhagad Road, submerging cars and two-wheelers.
Maharashtra Deputy CMs Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday assessed the flooding situation in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune, which are experiencing extremely heavy rains. Pawar visited the state disaster management department at the Mantralaya and directed officials in the affected cities to mobilize all necessary resources and relocate people to safer areas. Fadnavis was briefed about the deployment of two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams in Pune and the use of 11 boats to relocate residents of Ekata Nagar to safer locations.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Thursday that, if necessary, people affected by the heavy rains in Pune will be airlifted. The continuous downpour has resulted in four deaths and has flooded residential areas and low-lying houses. Shinde stated he has communicated with the Pune district collector and the civic leaders in Pune and the nearby industrial township of Pimpri Chinchwad. Additionally, he has reached out to officials from the Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for assistance in evacuation efforts.
Due to heavy rainfall in parts of western Maharashtra, the state government has urged Karnataka to release more water from the Almatti dam to prevent flooding in the Sangli and Kolhapur districts, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced on Thursday. The Almatti dam, officially known as the Lal Bahadur Shastri dam, is a hydroelectric project on the Krishna river in north Karnataka.
In response to heavy rainfall, officials have declared a holiday for schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in Raigad district, Maharashtra, on Thursday. Similar orders have been issued for Wada and Vikramgad talukas in Palghar district. Both districts are located in the coastal region of Maharashtra.
Heavy rains in Mumbai are affecting flight operations and resulting in cancellation and diversion of some of Air India‘s flights. Air India is offering full refunds or a one-time complimentary rescheduling for bookings confirmed for travel on 25th July 2024.

Three people died from electrocution caused by waterlogging after heavy rainfall at Pulachi Wadi in Pune’s Deccan Gymkhana area early Thursday. In another incident, a landslide in Adarwadi village, Maval tehsil, resulted in one fatality and one injury when a heavy rock tumbled down the road. Meanwhile, the fire department is using boats to rescue people from flooded neighborhoods such as Ekta Nagar.
