A total of 21 women candidates have emerged victorious in the elections for Maharashtra’s 288-seat assembly, with only one woman from the opposition side, according to the results released by the Election Commission.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recorded the highest number of women winners, with 14 of its female candidates securing seats. Among them, 10 were re-elected, including Shweta Mahale from Chikli, Meghana Bordikar from Jintur, Devyani Farande from Nashik Central, Seema Hiray from Nashik West, Manda Mhatre from Belapur, Manisha Chaudhari from Dahisar, Vidya Thakur from Goregaon, Madhuri Misal from Parvati, Monica Rajale from Shevgaon, and Namita Mundada from Kaij.
The BJP also saw four new women winners: Shreejaya Chavan from Bhokar, Sulabha Gaikwad from Kalyan East, Sneha Pandit from Vasai, and Anuradha Chavan from Fulambari.
From the ruling Shiv Sena, Manjula Gavit (Sakri) and Sanjana Jadhav (Kannad) were elected, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured victories with Sulbha Khodke (Amravati), Saroj Ahire (Deolali), Sana Malik (Anushaktinagar), and Aditi Tatkare (Shrivardhan).
Congress’ Jyoti Gaikwad from Dhavari will be the sole woman MLA representing the opposition.
