Two people were killed and two others injured after a man attacked sleeping individuals with a slab on a platform at Nagpur railway station in Maharashtra early on Monday morning, the Government Railway Police (GRP) said.

According to the authorities, in an unprovoked attack, the man allegedly bludgeoned the victims with a concrete sleeper—a heavy 50-kg slab used on railway tracks—while they were asleep on platform no 6.

The GRP quickly responded after hearing the screams and rushed to the scene, where they took the suspect, Jai Kumar Kewat, 45, into custody.

Ganesh Kumar, 40, a resident of Tamil Nadu, and an unidentified homeless man lost their lives in the attack. Two others were seriously injured and are currently being treated at Mayo Hospital.

The GRP has registered a murder case and an investigation is underway.
