Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The BJP unveiled its first list comprising 195 candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, making a significant change by replacing 33 sitting MPs with new faces.
In Assam, the BJP declared its candidates for 11 Lok Sabha seats. Among them, six are incumbents, while the remaining five are fresh faces. Parimal Suklabaidhya has been nominated by the party to contest from the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency, previously won by Rajdeep Roy in the 2019 general elections.
For the Autonomous District (ST) seat, currently held by BBJP MP Horen Singh Bey, the BJP has put forward Amar Singh Tisso as its nominee. Bijuli Kalita Medhi will contest from the Gauhati Lok Sabha seat, currently held by Queen Oja, while Ranjit Dutta will contest from the Tezpur Lok Sabha seat, previously won by Pallab Lochan Das in 2019. Additionally, Union Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has been named as the BJP’s candidate for the Dibrugarh constituency, replacing sitting MP Rameswar Teli.
From Chhattisgarh, in the BJP’s candidate list for 11 seats, four newcomers have emerged. Kamlesh Jangde has been nominated by the party to contest from the Janjgir Champa (SC) constituency, replacing sitting MP Guharam Ajgalley. Brijmohan Agrawal, a senior BJP leader, will be entering the electoral fray from Raipur, taking over from Sunil Kumar Soni who won the seat in 2019.
Roop Kumari Choudhary has been named as the BJP’s candidate for the Mahasamund seat, replacing sitting MP Chunni Lal Sahu. Bhojraj Nag has been nominated by the BJP to contest from the Kanker (ST) seat, replacing sitting MP Mohan Mandavi.
From Delhi, the BJP announced the names of five candidates for Lok Sabha seats, with four of them replacing sitting MPs. Praveen Khandelwal has been named as the party’s candidate for the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat, replacing two-term MP and former Union Minister Harsh Vardhan.
Kamaljeet Sehrawat will be contesting from the West Delhi seat, replacing two-term MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma. Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, has been nominated as the BJP’s candidate for the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, which is currently held by Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi.
Additionally, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has been named as the BJP’s candidate for the South Delhi seat, replacing Ramesh Bidhuri.
From Gujarat, the BJP announced its candidates for 15 Lok Sabha seats, resulting in the replacement of five sitting MPs. Rekhaben Hiteshbhai Choudhary has been nominated by the party to contest from the Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat, replacing sitting MP Prabhatbhai Savabhai Patel.
Dineshbhai Kidarbhai Makwana will be contesting from the Ahmedabad West (SC) seat, taking over from three-term MP Kirit Solanki. Union Minister Parshottam Rupala has been named as the BJP’s candidate for the Rajkot Lok Sabha seat, replacing sitting MP Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundariya.
Additionally, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will be contesting from the Porbandar seat, currently held by party MP Rameshbhai Lavjibhai Dhaduk. Rajpalsinh Mahendrasinh Jadhav has been nominated by the BJP to contest from the Panchmahal seat in Gujarat, replacing sitting MP Ratansinh Magansinh Rathod.
In Jharkhand, the BJP has nominated Manish Jaiswal to contest from the Hazaribagh seat, which is currently held by Jayant Sinha, the son of former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha. In the Lohardaga (ST) seat, three-time MP Sudarshan Bhagat has been replaced by Samir Oraon as the BJP’s candidate.
In its lineup of candidates for Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has replaced seven sitting MPs with new contenders. Bharat Singh Kushwaha has been named as the BJP’s candidate for the Gwalior Lok Sabha seat, replacing its sitting MP Vivek Narayan Shejwalker.
The party has opted to field Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia from the Guna constituency, dropping sitting MP Krishnapal Singh Yadav. Lata Wankhede has been nominated by the BJP to contest from the Sagar Lok Sabha seat, currently held by Rajbahadur Singh.
Virendra Khatik will be contesting from the Tikamgarh (SC) seat. Moreover, the BJP has replaced Vidisha MP Ramakant Bhargava with former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as its candidate for the seat.
Alok Sharma has been named as the BJP’s candidate for the Bhopal seat, currently held by Sadhvi Pragya Singh. Anita Nagar Singh Chauhan has been nominated by the BJP to contest from the Ratlam (ST) seat, currently held by BJP MP Guman Singh Damor.
In Rajasthan, the BJP unveiled its candidates for 15 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan, ushering in new faces to replace five sitting MPs who will contest from Churu, Bharatpur, Jalore, Udaipur, and Banswara constituencies.
From Tripura, former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has been named as the BJP’s candidate for the Tripura West seat, currently held by party MP Pratima Bhoumik.
In West Bengal, the BJP chose to replace its Alipurduar MP John Barla with Manoj Tigga for the constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
