BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal has expressed serious concern over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, taking aim at the West Bengal government and state police.
Speaking to ANI, Jaiswal urged the Supreme Court to take independent cognizance of the case.
“The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case is both tragic and alarming. The CBI has informed the court that the crime scene was tampered with, raising doubts about the role of the West Bengal government and police. The Supreme Court should take separate cognizance of this matter,” said the BJP leader.
On August 23, Bengal’s Sealdah Court sent the main accused, Sanjay Roy, to 14 days of judicial custody, where he will remain until September 6, 2024, under the supervision of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Calcutta High Court had earlier granted the CBI permission to conduct a polygraph test on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, along with five others who had dinner with the deceased doctor on the day of the incident, and one civic volunteer.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for central legislation and fast-track courts to handle “sensitive” cases for swift justice.
The rape and murder of the trainee doctor have sparked widespread protests and demands for justice in cities such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Kolkata. The postgraduate trainee was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
