Supreme Court Hearing on Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case Highlights: The Supreme Court concluded its hearing on Thursday (August 22) in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata and urged the doctors to return to work. The Court, having taken suo motu cognizance of the case, had instructed the CBI to provide an update on the investigation and to examine the mob vandalism that occurred at the hospital. As doctors continue to protest nationwide, the Supreme Court has established a national task force to address the broader issue of ensuring safety for medical professionals, with a particular focus on women. The task force has been directed to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months.

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose paid a visit to the family of the trainee doctor, in North 24 Parganas, who was found dead after being raped at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

“I came here straight from Delhi to meet the parents (of the deceased) and to understand their sentiments. They told me certain things. I would keep them confidential now.
