Things might soon be turning for the good of India’s Silicon Valley – Bengaluru as the government has begun discussion with stakeholders including the Chiefs of the companies that are there in the city. Days after social media witnessed fiery discussions on the depleting infrastructure of the city, things seem to be moving into a positive direction now. Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, former Infosys CEO TV Mohandas Pai and others met Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and discussed the city’s roads, drainage and other issues.

Sharing a photo from the meeting, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said the discussion was “constructive”. “We had a very constructive meeting with Deputy CM ⁦@DKShivakumar⁩ to agree to an action plan to fix key infra bottlenecks in roads, ORR, PRR drainage traffic n garbage. ⁦@TVMohandasPai @GBAChiefComm @TheTanveerAhmed @rk_misra,” she said.

This comes after she met CM Siddaramaiah, the Deputy CM on Diwali to extend her wishes, following social media spat over Bengaluru.

In her recent X post of the meeting, a user said the plan should be named as “challenge plan” to address the issues. “Can the action plan be named as “Challenge plan” to walk the talk we need to set a challenge . Only then can we see our city clean, international standard roads, pavement and drainages. A system driven garbage Managment. ( citizen awareness and responsibility campaign is a must to tackle uncivilised minds dumping trash, garbage everywhere ) Traffic sense is another chapter altogether- needs correction from the root level where Liscence and permits are issued,” he added.

Quoting the post, Shaw said that a public dashboard on progress of projects will be shared soon.

What has led to the meeting?

Recently, Kiran Shaw had offered to fix the city’s roads, potholes, and garbage mess, drawing praise from former Finance Minister P Chidambaram. She recently highlighted a number of issues that the people in the city have been facing due to poor and deteriorating infrastructure.

However, the Karnataka government attacked her for de-faming the city, with Shivakumar saying that Bengaluru has given so much to her and if she “wants to develop them (roads), let her do it. If she comes and asks, we will give her the roads”.

The BJP and social media users slammed the Karnataka government for targeting Shaw, and others for flagging the concern that the city has. She had said that Bengaluru’s infrastructure could be transformed with intent and a $1 billion investment.
