JD Vance India Visit Highlights: US Vice President condemns terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Monday shared US Vice President JD Vance and his family’s arrival pictures on social media, welcoming them to India. Jaiswal said that Vance family’s visit could lead to further strengthening of India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

US Vice President JD Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance, along with their children are currently en route to Delhi’s Akshardham Temple. Vance is on his first official visit to India and will meet PM Modi later today.

Akshardham Temple spokesperson Radhika Shukla shared that the Vice President and Second Lady are expected to visit the temple for darshan. Shukla said that since the Second Lady has Indian roots, the visit holds special meaning. They will come straight from the airport, starting with the darshan of the replica of Lord Swaminarayan, followed by a tour of the temple’s architecture. Their visit is expected to take place anytime after 11 am.

JD Vance received the ceremonial Guard of Honour upon his arrival in Delhi on Monday. An official said that security drills have already been carried out following proper protocols for the U.S. Vice President’s high-level visit. Security has been increased in different parts of Delhi to make sure the visit goes smoothly and no problems occur.

India and the US are expected to sign a new agreement for defense cooperation later this year. As part of this plan, India also aims to buy and jointly produce weapons like Javelin anti-tank missiles and Stryker infantry combat vehicles. This was shared in a joint statement after their meeting in February.

Vance’s kids are all dressed in traditional Indian attire. While the boys were seen donning kurta pajama, their baby girl was seen wearing an Indian dress. The kids were captured hugging their father as they got off the plane.

Now that JD Vance has arrived at the Palam airport, he will soon meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will be welcoming the Vance family shortly. The duo will then have dinner and a meeting, which is scheduled for 6:30 pm in the evening today. Vance was captured getting off the plane with his wife and second lady Usha Vance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Friday spoken to Elon Musk about the strong possibilities for working together in technology and innovation. He also said that India is committed to building stronger partnerships with the US in these areas. India already shares strong ties with the US in trade, investments, and defense.

The two countries also work closely to counter China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific region. India is a member of the Quad alliance along with the US, Japan, and Australia, which aims to promote regional stability. Big American companies like Apple and Google have expanded their presence in India. Just last month, Musk’s Starlink signed deals with two major Indian telecom companies to bring satellite internet to the country. As part of ongoing trade talks, India and the US have set a goal to more than double their trade to $500 billion by 2030.

Preparations are being done at the iconic Taj Mahal as JD Vance and his family are expected to visit Agra and take a walk through the famous monument. The Vance family is expected to arrive in Agra on April 23, Wednesday. In 2020, US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump had also visited the Taj Mahal.

The Trump administration has listed India as one of the key countries it wants to make trade deals with during the 90-day break from higher tariffs, which lasts until July.

Vance’s visit has raised hopes in New Delhi that a fast agreement can be reached to avoid heavier duties, while the current 10% tariff remains in place.

A New Delhi official told Bloomberg News that talks on specific sectors will happen this week, with the aim to finish by the end of May. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will also attend IMF meetings in Washington, where she is expected to talk about trade with top US officials.

JD Vance’s India visit comes at a time of rising global trade tensions which was kicked-off by US President Donald Trump. The trip is important for both political and personal reasons for the US Vice President. Vance arrives as the US is warning it may raise tariffs on Indian goods from 10% to 26% if a trade deal is not made before the 90-day pause ends, as per reports. The 90-day pause was announced by Trump earlier this month. Personally speaking, this is Vance’s first visit to India and there are reports that the Vance family may visit second lady Usha Vance’s ancestral home on their arrival here.

PM Modi will officially welcome US Vice President JD Vance and his family at 10:00 am today. Both the leaders are expected to sit down for a meeting at 6:30 pm today at the PM’s official residence. The meeting will then be followed by a dinner.

Security has been increased across the National Capital before the arrival of US Vice President JD Vance and his family today morning. JD Vance, his wife Usha, and their three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — are expected to land at Palam airbase at 9:30 am for a four-day visit to India.

As US Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance get ready for their first official visit to India starting today, excitement is building in a small village. Vadluru, located in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, is where Usha Vance’s ancestors once lived. Pti reported that the people residing there now are looking forward to the Vance family’s visit.

– Delhi Traffic Police has announced that on Monday, from 9 am to 11 am, parking will not be allowed on several roads including Sardar Patel Marg, Gurugram Road, Parade Road, Thimmaiya Marg, Air Force Road, and nearby areas.

– Any vehicles parked wrongly in these areas will be towed and moved to the traffic pit near Kalibari Mandir Marg, in front of Bhairon Temple.

– For the next three hours, some roads in Central Delhi will be diverted to keep traffic moving smoothly.

– No parking or stopping will be allowed on C-Hexagon, Janpath Road, Sardar Patel Marg, and nearby areas.

– Similar restrictions will be in place on Sikandra Road, Firoz Shah Road, MNLP, Vikas Marg, Noida Link Road, Akshardham, and nearby roads.

– Vance will meet Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Governor Haribhau Bagade on April 22.

– Vance is expected to travel to Taj Mahal in Agra along with his wife and children on April 23.

– He will return to Jaipur the same afternoon and also visit the Jaipur City Palace.

– He will leave for Washington on April 24, wrapping up a visit aimed at strengthening India-US relations both regionally and globally.

– After his meetings in New Delhi, US Vice President JD Vance is expected to fly to Jaipur and stay there until April 24.

– On April 22, he might visit the famous Amer Palace. Vance, along with his family will receive a traditional Rajasthani welcome.

– During the visit, they are expected to wear Jodhpuri safas (traditional turbans) and enjoy folk dances, puppet shows, local clothing displays, and Rajasthani food.

– The visit will last about two and a half hours, and the palace will be closed to the public during that time. Twelve trained guides will assist and maintain proper protocol.

– Later that day, Vance will give a speech at the US-India Business Summit at the Rajasthan International Centre.

– The summit will include top officials from both India and the US. Vance is expected to share his ideas for improving trade and investment between the two countries.

India on April 17 had said that the upcoming visit of US Vice President JD Vance is “very positive” and that it will help make India-US relations even stronger. Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, said that all important and relevant matters will be discussed during the visit. He also said that trade and tariff issues are likely to come up in Vance’s meetings with Indian leaders.

Vance is visiting India for the first time since becoming Vice President. His trip comes after US President Donald Trump announced high tariffs on many countries, including India. However, these tariffs have been put on hold for 90 days. During this time, India and the US are in talks to finalize a trade deal.
