The Indian Army’s Romeo Force seized a large cache of weapons and explosives in the Jhullas area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials reported on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, the Army launched a search operation and discovered the weapons and explosives in a suspected terrorist’s bag.
According to Army officials, the recovered items included AK-47 and pistol rounds of Pakistani origin, along with advanced explosives such as Remote-Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIEDs), timed destruction IEDs, stove IEDs, other IED explosives, and Chinese-made grenades.
In a statement, the Army noted, “On October 5, based on reliable intelligence, a major search operation was conducted by Romeo Force in the Jhulas area. During the operation, a suspected terrorist’s bag containing a significant cache of items, including AK-47 and pistol rounds of Pakistani origin and sophisticated explosives like RCIEDs and Chinese grenades, was found.”
Officials confirmed that all the recovered items were in functional and ready-to-use condition. They highlighted the importance of this operation, emphasising that it played a crucial role in maintaining security during the upcoming elections and ensuring stability in the region. The operation is ongoing, they added.
In a related incident, an area patrol by police and the army on Ring Road Gharota in Jammu found a suspicious explosive device, which was later safely disposed of by the Bomb Disposal Squad.
