Delhi saw moderate showers on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief after several days of intense heat. The rain cooled temperatures and offered residents a welcome break from the city’s warmest spell in recent days.

The IMD has issued fresh weather alerts in several parts of the country including Gujarat, West Bengal and parts of Northeast and Southern India. These areas are expected to receive heave rainfall in the coming days, while Maharashtra is likely to see light rain, with cities like Mumbai and Pune receiving light to moderate showers until October 3.

IMD issues red and orange alerts in Gujarat

Gujarat is among the states facing the heaviest rainfall warnings. According to IMD’s Monday update, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, and Porbandar have been placed under red alert, signalling very heavy rain.

Amreli, Rajkot, and Devbhoomi Dwarka are on orange alert, indicating heavy rainfall, while the remaining districts are on yellow alert, meaning moderate rain is expected.

Overall, heavy showers are predicted across Gujarat until October 2, so residents are advised to remain cautious.

Maharashtra to see light rain in some areas

Light rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in parts of Marathawada starting Tuesday and continuing for the next few days. Most areas of Konkan-Goa, some parts of South Madhya Maharashtra, and isolated areas in North Madhya Maharashtra are likely to receive light to moderate rain. The rain spell is expected to continue until October 5, bringing temporary relief from the heat but also requiring caution for travel and outdoor activities.

Northwest India: Isolated thunderstorms with lightning are expected over Uttarakhand on September 30, Rajasthan from September 30 to October 3, and Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on October 4–5.

Northeast India: Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected in many areas. Assam & Meghalaya may experience very heavy rain on October 2–3, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura will see isolated heavy showers until October 2. Arunachal Pradesh is also expected to receive heavy rain from October 1–5.

West India: Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected in many areas. Heavy rainfall is predicted in Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra during the next six days, except on September 30. Saurashtra & Kutch and other parts of Gujarat will see heavy showers till October 2, with isolated very heavy rain on September 30.

East & Central India: Most regions will see light to moderate rain or thunderstorms. Isolated heavy rain is expected in West Bengal & Sikkim (October 2–4), Bihar (October 1–4), Jharkhand (October 2–4), and parts of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh from September 30 to October 5. Very heavy rain is likely in Gangetic West Bengal on October 2, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on October 3–4, and Bihar on October 4–5. Thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30–50 kmph are expected in these regions over the next week.

South India: Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely in many areas. Isolated heavy showers are predicted over north Tamil Nadu on September 30 and along Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam until October 2. Strong surface winds of 30–40 kmph are likely over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Lakshadweep during this period.
