India Pakistan Ceasefire News Highlights: BSF Jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in the custody of Pakistan Rangers since April 23, 2025, was handed back to India today. The exchange took place around 10:30 am at the Joint Check Post in Attari, Amritsar. The process was carried out peacefully and followed all standard procedures.
This exchange involved one soldier from each side. While Pakistan returned BSF Jawan Shaw, India handed over a Pakistan Rangers personnel who had been in Indian custody. Shaw, who belongs to West Bengal, was welcomed back by Indian officials at the border.
Meanwhile in Riyadh, US President Donald Trump once again took credit for securing what he called a “historic ceasefire” between India and Pakistan, following a period of heightened military tensions between the two countries. He explained that trade played a significant role in bringing about the ceasefire, encouraging both countries to focus on economic deals rather than military conflict. He stressed on the idea of trading goods instead of nuclear missiles, highlighting the importance of peaceful negotiations. “Let’s do some trading. Let’s not trade nuclear missiles. Let’s trade the things that you make so beautifully,” Trump said.
“Just days ago, my administration successfully brokered a historic ceasefire to stop the escalating violence between India and Pakistan, and I used trade to a large extent to do it,” Trump said while speaking to the crowd.
Trump’s reiteration of calming things down between India and Pakistan was not received well. Many political leaders went online to criticise his stance.Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said, “This narrative wasn’t part of the syllabus.”
Tommy Pigott, Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State, said that the US welcomes the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and praised both Prime Ministers for choosing peace. He also expressed US’ commitment to encouraging direct communication between the two countries. When asked whether the US had received any assurance from Pakistan regarding the dismantling of terrorist infrastructure or ending support for terror groups, Pigott did not provide specific details.

Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Shukroo forest area of Keller in South Kashmir’s Shopian district Two of the three killed terrorists have been identified as Shahid Kuttay and Adnan Shafi Dar and were involved in previous attacks. The identity of the third terrorist is yet to be ascertained.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the family of Sukhwinder Kaur, a resident of Khai Ke village, Ferozepur, who died from injuries sustained in a Pakistani drone attack.
The Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the tragic demise of Sukhwinder Kaur.
“Our government stands firmly with her family during this time of immense pain, and we are committed to providing all possible support to help them cope with this devastating loss,” the chief minister said.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora also extended financial assistance, announcing Rs 2 lakh for Kaur’s family to aid them in this difficult period.

One terrorist killed in Shopian: Report
According to India Today report, one terrorist has been killed by the security forces in the encounter that broke out in Shopian today. As per NDTV, there were four terrorists involved in the encounter.
Encounter underway in J&K’s Shopian
An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Based on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in Shukroo Keller area of the south Kashmir district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there.
They said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired upon the forces who retaliated.
The exchange of fire is going on, the officials said, adding, so far there are no reports of any casualties on either side.
Earlier, posters appeared in various parts of Shopian district, announcing a ₹20 lakh reward for anyone who provides information about those involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.

Troops on border reduced after India-Pak DGMO talks
