Gautam Adani has surpassed Mukesh Ambani as India’s biggest wealth gainer on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025. His net worth saw a nearly Rs 1 lakh crore increase, marking a 13 per cent surge. On the other hand, Mukesh Ambani’s net worth saw a 13 per cent dip, bringing his net worth to Rs 8.6 lakh crore. However, he still remains India’s richest person.

With this, 62-year-old Adani grabs the second spot on the list with a net worth of Rs 8.4 crore, while the 67-year-old billionaire from Mumbai retains the top spot.

Mukesh Ambani has also regained his position as Asia’s richest person, with a net worth of $100 billion. However, his fortune has declined by $15 billion over the past year. Meanwhile, Gautam Adani secured the 18th position on the global rich list, with a net worth of $97 billion, marking a 13 per cent increase. Although Adani briefly held the title of richest person in Asia last year, Ambani has now reclaimed the top spot.

Mukesh Ambani failed to secure a spot in the world’s top 10 richest list, as rising debt levels, reduced demand in key sectors, and increased competition weighed on Reliance’s stock performance.

Next on the India list is Roshni Nadar, 43, of HCL. She made her debut on the list with a net worth of Rs 3.5 lakh crore after her father Shiv Nadar’s strategic succession plan, in which he transferred a 47 per cent stake in HCL to her. She is the only Indian woman featured in the Top 10 wealthiest individuals in India.

Dilip Shanghvi’s wealth grew by 21 per cent to Rs 2.5 lakh crore and Wipro’s Azim Premji is on the fifth spot. Mumbai dominates with five billionaires in the top ten, followed by New Delhi with two. Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Pune each contribute one billionaire to the elite rankings.

According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2025, 117 individuals lost their billionaire status this year, with nearly half of them from China. Meanwhile, 387 new billionaires joined the list, including 96 from the USA, 91 from China, and 45 from India.

India now has 284 billionaires, with 13 new entrants this year. While the US remains the leader, followed by China, Indian billionaires account for 7 per cent of the total wealth on the list. Seven Indian billionaires made it to the Hurun Top 100.

The country also saw a significant number of emigrant billionaires (42) – mostly relocating to the US – but had only six immigrant billionaires.

“The Hurun Global Rich List 2025 highlights India’s emergence as a formidable economic powerhouse, ranking second in Asia and third globally with a significant number of billionaires. This impressive rise reflects the country’s growing economic influence on the world stage. The collective wealth of Indian billionaires has surpassed the trillion-dollar milestone, signalling a new era of prosperity. Notably, 62 per cent of these billionaires have experienced increased wealth, underscoring the positive economic trends sweeping the nation. While the Sensex grew by 7 per cent, it’s the remarkable 10 per cent increase in wealth that truly embodies the economic upliftment of India’s people, proving that growth is not just reflected in market indices but in the tangible success of individuals across the nation.” said Anas Rahman Junaid, the Founder and Chief Researcher, Hurun India.
