A bomb threat email was received by the Ministry of Home Affairs office in Delhi’s North Block on Wednesday. However, later it was declared a hoax as nothing life-threatening was found.
According to a Delhi Fire Services official, the threatening email was received around 3:30 pm by a senior ministry officer. The message ominously warned of an imminent explosion, claiming that a bomb had been planted within the premises.
The IP address and other details of the mail are being checked.
As soon as the e-mail was received, police and fire department personnel, a dog squad, and bomb disposal and detection teams were deployed for the search operation at the North Block. Two fire tenders were also present at the spot.
Following an extensive sweep of the North Block, Delhi Police confirmed the threat to be unsubstantiated. A source within the home ministry told PTI that security agencies said the email to be a hoax.
This incident adds to a series of recent bomb threats targeting various establishments across the national capital. In April and May, numerous schools, hospitals, and other institutions received similar threats, prompting heightened security measures and investigations by Delhi Police.
Twenty hospitals, the IGI Airport and the Northern Railways’ CPRO office in Delhi received bomb threats through emails from a Cyprus-based mailing service company on May 12.
