Gujarat Local Body Election Result 2026 Highlights: Modi says ‘bond between Gujarat, BJP gets even stronger’ after party sweeps municipal corp polls

In Ward No. 12 of Vapi Municipal Corporation, four independent candidates have secured victory in the local body elections.

After winning the seats, all four candidates also declared their support for the BJP, giving the party an added boost in the civic polls.

The BJP has once again recorded complete victory in Olpad, Surat, leaving both Congress and AAP without any seats in the area.

The party won all 5 seats of the Surat District Panchayat and also secured all 24 seats in the taluka panchayat. BJP candidates emerged victorious on the Olpad and Pinjarat district panchayat seats as well.

Out of the 24 taluka panchayat seats, 13 were won without any contest, while the BJP claimed the remaining 11 seats with a strong margin.

In Vadodara, former Congress corporator and former opposition leader Amiben Rawat has lost the election from Ward Number 1.

In the same ward, an independent candidate secured victory, making it a notable result in the local body polls.

Congress faced a major setback in Ahmedabad after its sitting corporator from Amraiwadi ward, Jagdishbhai Rathod, was defeated in the local body elections.

In the 2021 polls, Congress had managed to win one of the four seats in Amraiwadi, while the BJP had secured the other three. This time, the BJP has taken all four seats in the ward.

The party has also won all four seats in other important wards such as Thaltej, Isanpur, and Nava Vadaj, further strengthening its position in the city.

Early counting trends show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holding a strong lead in Gujarat’s municipal corporation elections. According to the latest figures, the party is ahead in 182 seats, while Congress is leading in 25 seats.

Reports also suggest that in the 15 municipal corporations of the state, which together have 1,044 seats, the BJP has gained a clear early advantage, with Congress trailing behind in the initial rounds of counting.

As vote counting continues for 192 seats across 48 wards of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the BJP has secured all four seats in Ward No. 1, Gota.

The party has successfully retained its hold in the ward, with Payalben Patel, Hina Patel, Vishnubhai Prajapati, and Ketankumar Patel declared winners.

Out of the total 192 seats, BJP had already won two seats—Vasna and Thaltej—without any contest.

For the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation elections, the BJP fielded 190 candidates, while Congress put up 185 candidates and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) entered the race with 151 contenders.

Congress candidates have registered victories on the Arsodia, Khorjdabi, Paliad, and Pansar seats of the Kalol Taluka Panchayat, strengthening the party’s position in the area.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is moving towards a major victory in Surat, with early leads and counting trends showing that the party could win over 100 of the 120 seats in the Surat Municipal Corporation.

The BJP has been in control of the civic body for nearly three decades, and the latest trends suggest that its dominance in Surat is likely to remain strong.

The BJP has suffered a setback in the Bhesan district panchayat election, where former MLA Bhupat Bhayani was defeated by around 1,700 votes.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Dinesh Rupareliya secured the victory, giving the party an important win in the contest.

Early Trends from Rajkot Municipal Corporation:

This year’s local body elections in Gujarat marked the first voting process in nine newly formed municipal corporations — Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Porbandar, and Surendranagar.

The main contest is expected to be between the ruling BJP, the opposition Congress, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). At the same time, AIMIM has also entered the race by fielding candidates on several seats.

In the local body elections held in March 2021, the BJP secured a huge victory by winning 6,236 out of the total 8,470 seats across different municipalities.

This gave the party a strong lead over Congress and helped it dominate the civic polls across the state.

Among the municipal corporations, the newly created Gandhidham Municipal Corporation in Kutch district saw the lowest voter turnout at 46.03%.

On the other hand, Vapi Municipal Corporation in Valsad district recorded the highest participation with 72.29% voting. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation reported a voter turnout of 51.81%.

In Godhra Municipality, located in Central Gujarat’s Panchmahal district, the BJP has so far won 4 out of the total 44 seats.

In the tribal district of Dahod, early results from Dahod Municipality show the BJP winning 6 out of the total 36 seats so far, while Congress has secured 1 seat.

In the tribal district of Chhota Udepur, the BJP has made an early gain by winning 6 out of the 28 seats in Bodeli Municipality.

Early trends from the local body election results show the BJP ahead in several municipalities across Central Gujarat.

In Anand district, the party has so far won 10 of the 36 seats in Petlad Municipality, 4 out of 25 seats in Kapadvanj Municipality, 7 of the 24 seats in Thasra Municipality, and 2 of the 28 seats in Umreth Municipality. Independent candidates have also secured one seat each in Kapadvanj and Thasra.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also making its presence felt in the Gujarat local body elections, with early counting trends suggesting that the party is leading in Ward 2 of the Surat Municipal Corporation.

This early lead points to AAP’s growing efforts to strengthen its position in the state’s local political landscape.

Voting was held on Sunday for around 9,200 seats spread across 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats. More than 4.18 crore voters were eligible to cast their votes in these local body elections.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has secured its first win in the Maliya Hati Taluka Panchayat of Junagadh. The party made a strong start by taking the lead on three seats at the same time, as per IE Gujarati.

A candidate from Aam Aadmi Party has won the Lalpur Taluka Panchayat of Gir Somnath. The counting for all municipal corporations and municipalities is currently underway.

Vote counting for the Rajkot Municipal Corporation elections is now underway. In the early trends, the BJP panel has taken the lead in Ward 16 of the civic body.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has opened its account in the Vapi Municipal Corporation elections with an early victory, where a total of 52 seats are being contested.

The first result from the civic polls has been announced, and the BJP has won all four seats in Ward Number 9.

The electronic voting machines (EVMs) were brought out of the strongroom in the presence of representatives from different political parties, marking the start of the counting process.

The postal ballots are being counted first. After that, officials started counting the votes recorded in the EVMs.

Chaos broke out at the vote counting centre in Danta, Ambaji, even before the counting process started, as Congress candidates and party workers staged protests over alleged irregularities and concerns about the system, accoding to gujratinews18.com.

The protest soon turned tense, with heated clashes reported between angry workers and police personnel. The situation created major confusion at the centre right from the start of counting day.

With slogans being raised both inside and outside the counting centre, the atmosphere remained tense.

As the unrest grew, additional police forces were deployed and security arrangements were tightened to bring the situation under control.

The results of the local body elections will be declared on Tuesday, but even before the counting, the BJP had already secured 730 seats without any contest. The party is expected to win the highest number of seats overall, while all eyes are now on the performance of Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party and how many seats they manage to secure.
