Election Live Updates: Alleging that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act was the BJP’s “political tool” to divide society for votes, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi today said that if the Congress-led alliance comes to power in Assam it will not allow its implementation and make the state government party to the ongoing case in the Supreme Court to oppose the controversial law. The Congress is contesting the forthcoming polls as a part of the “Grand Alliance” along with the AIUDF, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), CPI(M), CPI, CPI-ML and the Anchalik Gana Morcha.
In Tamil Nadu, DMK today announced the list of 173 candidates for April 6 Assembly elections. Party chief MK Stalin will contest from Kolathur and son Udhayanidhi from Chepauk- Triplicane. Filing of nominations for Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry Assembly elections has commenced today. The last date of filing of nominations is March 19. Yesterday, political parties in Tamil Nadu finalised their seat-sharing deal after several rounds of negotiations spanning over weeks. While AIADMK will contest on 178 seats, DMK will contest from 174 constituencies.
In West Bengal, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari today filed his nomination from Nandigram. He will take on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the constituency. Adhikari was accompanied by Union Minister Smriti Irani and Dharmendra Pradhan. Meanwhile, a TMC delegation today met Election Commission officials in New Delhi. They alleged that the EC had replaced ADG Law & Order and DG and the incident happened immediately after that. The TMC leaders claimed that the entire responsibility is with the ECI to prove where were the lapses. TMC leader Partha Chatterjee also questioned the silence of PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee.

A theatre group in West Bengal, known for its productions on socio-economic themes, has dropped an artiste from a play after the actor joined the BJP. Saurav Palodhi, whose 'Ghum Nei', an adaptation of the Utpal Dutt classic on the present political situation of the country through the prism of Left ideology, had posted on his official Facebook account that the artiste, Kaushik Kar, was removed from the production for joining the saffron party.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who is pitted against his former protege and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee from the high-profile Nandigram assembly seat, today urged people not to vote for "outsiders", as he flayed the ruling party for betraying the trust of people. Adhikari, who recently became a voter in Nandigram from Kanthi in East Midnapore district, filed his nomination from the seat a short while ago. "I would appeal to all of you to not waste your votes in favour of outsiders, who have betrayed your trust and aspirations after coming to power in 2011," Adhikari said, without naming Banerjee.
Union Minister Smriti Irani today slammed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for being more keen in clicking photographs by falsely claiming credit for the central schemes started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and wondered whether the people of the state would vote for "such a daughter" who unleashes violence on mothers and masses. Taking a dig at TMCs poll slogan 'Bangla Nijer Meyeke Chai' (Bengal wants its daughter), Irani wondered if the people would want return of a regime that unleashes political violence on people of the state.
TMC will release it smanifesto on 14th March. The party had earlier postponed the release following alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee.
