Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that MPs who habitually create a ruckus in Parliament and hurt democratic values should introspect upon their behaviour as the outgoing Lok Sabha meets for the final session. The Prime Minister was briefing the media ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament.
Beginning and ending his interaction with “Ram Ram” greetings, Modi said that unruly behaviour by parliamentarians will be forgotten and will give them no recognition. “If they ask 100 people in their own constituencies, nobody would remember those who created a ruckus or behaved inappropriately in Parliament. On the contrary, those who have voiced their views, even in the form of harsh criticism, will be remembered by a large section of people,” the Prime Minister said.
The Winter Session of Parliament saw the unprecedented suspension of a record 146 Opposition MPs from both Houses of Parliament amid demands that Home Minister Amit Shah address the Parliament on the Lok Sabha security breach. The suspension of 14 MPs was revoked on Tuesday, the eve of the Budget Session of Parliament. The other MPs were suspended for the remainder of the Winter Session of Parliament.
The Prime Minister’s remark came ahead of the President’s address to a joint sitting of both houses of Parliament, marking the onset of the Budget Session of Parliament. Indicating confidence in his government’s return to power, the Prime Minister said in his address that a full Budget will be presented in July.
“This time, Finance Minister of the country, Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget with ‘disha-nirdeshak baatein’. I am of the firm belief that the country is going ahead by crossing new heights of progress every day. All-round and inclusive development is taking place. This journey will continue with the blessings of people,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister also hailed the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in both houses of Parliament and congratulated the members for passing the historic law. “At the end of the first session that was convened in this new Parliament building, the Parliament took a graceful decision – Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. After that, on 26th Jan we saw how the country experienced the capability of Nari Shakti, its valour, the strength of its resolve. Today, when the budget session begins, President Drouapdi Murmu’s guidance and tomorrow when Nirmala Sitharaman presents the interim budget – in a way this is a festival of the Nari Shakti,” PM Modi said.
