With the festive season approaching, the Delhi Police have intensified security across the city’s bustling markets, particularly in popular shopping districts like Chandni Chowk, Azadpur, and Ghazipur. This decision follows a high-alert status triggered by an explosion that occurred on October 20, when a blast damaged a wall at the CRPF school in Rohini’s Prashant Vihar area, although fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The police are focusing on ensuring safety as the city prepares for Diwali and other upcoming festivals, which typically see a significant influx of shoppers, including many from outside Delhi. “Elaborate security arrangements have been made, especially in markets, malls, vital installations, and crowded places. Police visibility has been enhanced through intensified patrolling and deployments of extra pickets,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta.
To further bolster security, loading and unloading activities will be prohibited from 12 PM to 8 PM in Sadar Bazar, a major wholesale market. DCP of the north district, Raja Banthia, emphasized that all preventive measures are being implemented to ensure smooth and safe festival celebrations.
Police are also closely monitoring movements in border areas, with Southeast DCP Ravi Kumar Singh reporting an increase in foot patrols throughout the markets. “We are keeping strict vigil from maachan and morcha, with drones deployed to oversee the markets. No one will be allowed to breach law and order,” DCP Singh affirmed.
A stringent watch is being maintained at all railway and metro stations, with additional force deployment to monitor any suspicious activities. The patrolling teams, comprising the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), have been instructed to promptly inform their superiors of any unusual occurrences.
“Anti-sabotage checks are being conducted regularly along the railway tracks and markets with the assistance of dog squads and bomb disposal teams,” an officer explained. Continuous monitoring of CCTV cameras is in place, and Police Control Rooms (PCRs) are on standby for any situation.
New Delhi DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla reassured the public, stating that teams are fully prepared to handle any potential incidents, having completed multiple mock drills to ensure readiness.
