One child was among 26 people rescued by firefighters, but a 40-year-old woman died in a massive fire that broke out in Delhi’s eastern Shakarpur district on Monday night, officials said.

Officials confirmed that approximately 60 people were present in the building when the fire occurred, and several individuals jumped out of the building in an attempt to save their lives.

According to a Delhi Fire Service official, “We received a fire call at about 1:05 am… We immediately dispatched three fire engines to the site. Later, five more fire engines were rushed to the spot. The matter was reported to the police promptly.”

Fire tenders reached the spot and commenced rescue operations.

All the people were rushed to the hospital immediately. The fire was doused after a few hours of firefighting. Fire department personnel rescued people one by one by placing a ladder next to the building’s window.
