Latest reports say that two people have died due to the heavy rains brought by Cyclone Hamoon in Bangladesh.
According to the circular issued by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), the next tropical storm in the region will be known as ‘Midhili’. This name has been suggested by Maldives.

According to the latest update by the IMD, Cyclone Hamoon is centered 40 km east-southeast of Chittagong in Bangladesh.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclonic Storm “Hamoon” over coastal Bangladesh has started the landing process and is expected to diminish into a deep depression during the next six hours.
The Municipal Administration in Odisha has alerted all Urban Local Bodies (ULB) in anticipation of the cyclonic storm ‘Hamoon’ in the Bay of Bengal. The Director of Municipal Administration, Sangramjit Nayak, issued a statement emphasizing the impending danger and urging cooperation among officials. ULB chiefs were instructed to ensure the presence of all staff members during this challenging period. (ANI)
Bangladesh is preparing to evacuate 1.5 million people as cyclone Hamoon approaches, with the storm expected to make landfall by midday Wednesday. Ten coastal districts are preparing to move residents to shelters, with the government urging those in “vulnerable areas” to relocate by 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday, according to Enamur Rahman, the state minister for disaster management.
Latest reports say that Bangladesh is going to evacuate around 1.5 million people to safe zone. The evacuation plan is underway in 10 districts of Bangladesh, a Bloomberg report says.

VSCS Hamoon about 190 km south of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 305km SW of Chittagong (Bangladesh) at 1130 IST to weaken gradually and cross the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around the evening of 25th Oct as CS.
The Chittagong Port Authority has issued Alert 3 as Cyclone Hamoon hurtles towards Bangladesh, the Daily Star report says. This is the second highest security alert by the port authority, the report added.
The ongoing Navratri festival in India is being overshadowed by the looming threat of heavy rainfall due to cyclone Hamoon, which is currently forming over the Bay of Bengal. Predicted to intensify into a cyclonic storm within 12 hours, the cyclone is expected to move towards the north-northeast and cross the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong on Wednesday. The eastern states of India, particularly West Bengal and Odisha, are likely to experience significant rainfall, coinciding with the concluding days of Navratri.
The maritime ports of Payra and Chattogram have been told to hoist danger signal 7 in wake of Cyclone Hamoon, latest reports from Bangladesh said. According to ‘Daily Star’, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a bulletin, which says that coastal areas of Chandpur, Feni, Barishal, Naokhali, Bhola will come under danger signal 7.
Several NGOs and government organizations have started mobilising the task force in Bangladesh ahead of Cyclone Hamoon’s landfall.

Odisha has issued a circular to all urban local bodies in the state. All ULBs have been put on alert in wake of Cyclone Hamoon. Leaves of all officials have been cancelled due to cyclone.
The IMD’s latest update confirms that sever cyclonic storm Hamoon has intensified into very severe cyclonic storm. At present, it is centered 290 km east of Odisha’s Paradip.

Fresh updates from the weather department says that Cyclone Tej has now weakened into severe cyclonic storm. It is now centered over coastal Yemen. It will move further west and weaken into cyclonic storm in next six hours.
Cyclone Tej, the first post-monsoon cyclonic system that developed in the Arabian Sea has crossed Yemen coast, the IMD confirmed on Tuesday morning. It is still a very severe cyclonic storm and is maintaining its wind speed.
The weather department has said that the sea conditions would be very rough and turbulent. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
The word ‘Hamoon’ comes from the Persian language. This name of the cyclone was chosen by Iran. The word Hamoon is Persian language means ‘marshlands’ or inland desert lake. (Read More)
