No proposal to extend deadline for exchange of Rs 2,000 notes: FinMin

The finance ministry said that there is no proposal to extend the deadline for the exchange of Rs 2,000 notes beyond September 30, 2023, reports said. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary replied negatively in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, to a question about whether there is a proposal to extend the deadline for the exchange of Rs 2000 in banks beyond September 30. “At present, this matter is not under consideration,” the minister said.

North Korea has launched suspected ballistic missile, says PMO Japan

‘Orange’ alert for six districts in Maharashtra

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai of the India Meteorological Department has issued an ‘orange’ alert and has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for six districts of Maharashtra till July 27. Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudrug, Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts of the state are noted to receive rainfall till the mentioned date.

The water level of Yamuna river subsided marginally after it was flowing over the danger mark which forced the authorities to suspend the movement of trains on the Old Railway Bridge.

Latest iPhone 15 buzz

Apple is asking suppliers to produce about 85 million units of the iPhone 15 this year, roughly in line with the year before, Bloomberg News said on Monday citing people familiar with the matter. The company is aiming to hold shipments steady despite a projected decline in the overall smartphone market, the report said, adding Apple is considering raising the price for Pro models. Relief for Imran Khan

Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan appeared before the Supreme Court here on Monday which barred the authorities from arresting him till August 9 in a case linked to the murder of a prominent lawyer in Quetta.
A three-member bench led by Justice Yahya Afridi issued the directives while hearing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief’s plea seeking to quash the case, the Dawn newspaper reported.

Govt ratifies 8.15% interest rate on Employees Provident Fund for 2022-23

The government has ratified the rate of interest at 8.15 per cent rate on deposits under the Employees Provident Fund scheme for the financial year 2022-23. Retirement fund body EPFO on March 28, 2023, had marginally raised the interest rate on employees’ provident fund (EPF) deposits to 8.15 per cent for 2022-23 for its over six crore subscribers. As per an official order issued on Monday, the EPFO has asked the filed offices for crediting the interest at 8.15 per cent on EPF for 2022-23 into the accounts of members. (READ MORE)

Worldcoin project launched

Worldcoin, a cryptocurrency project founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, launches on Monday. The project’s core offering is its World ID, an account that only real humans can get. To get a World ID, a customer signs up to do an in-person iris scan using Worldcoin’s ‘orb’, a silver ball approximately the size of a bowling ball. Once the orb’s iris scan verifies the person is a real human, it creates a World ID. The company behind Worldcoin is San Francisco and Berlin-based Tools for Humanity. (Reuters)

11 killed after school gym roof collapses in China

At least 11 people have been killed after the roof of a school gymnasium collapsed amidst rains in Qiqihar City of northeast China’s Heilongjiang province, officials said on Monday. The roof collapse was reported at 2.56 pm Sunday, according to the provincial fire and rescue department. Nineteen people were at the gymnasium covering about 1,200 square metres at the No. 34 Middle School in Longsha district when the accident occurred. (PTI)

Landslide on Pune-Mumbai Expressway

A landslide struck part of the crucial Pune-Mumbai Expressway in the early hours of Monday. Latest reports say that a landslide was reported from Raigad’s Adoshi village. No one was injured in the incident. The vehicular traffic was briefly stopped to clear the debris.  

ASI begins Gyanvapi survey
