Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs on Monday (February 3) moved a privilege motion against Sonia Gandhi over her controversial “poor thing” remark about President Droupadi Murmu, ANI reported. The BJP MPs condemned Gandhi’s comments, calling them disrespectful towards the nation’s highest constitutional authority.

The controversy erupted after Sonia Gandhi described President Murmu as a “poor thing” following her address to a joint sitting of Parliament on January 31, which marked the opening of the budget session.

When reporters asked Gandhi about Murmu’s nearly hour-long speech, the former Congress president commented, “The President was getting very tired by the end… She could hardly speak, poor thing.” Her words, seemingly referring to the length of the speech, sparked outrage and backlash.
