Bihar Floor Test News HIGHLIGHTS: The Nitish Kumar-led National Democratic Alliance government in Bihar won the Motion of Confidence on the floor of the Bihar Assembly in the absence of Opposition MLAs who staged a walkout during the Chief Minister’s address in the state Assembly. Despite an absent Opposition, the government sought a division of votes after the Deputy Speaker passed the motion of confidence by a voice vote. Voting was held with just the ruling MLAs present in the House and a total of 129 votes were polled in the government’s favour. The majority mark in the 243-member Assembly is 122.

Ahead of the vote on the Motion of Confidence moved by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to prove that his government enjoys the support of a majority of legislators in the state Assembly, at least two BJP MLAs who were reported “missing” earlier in the day resurfaced and joined the House proceedings on Monday. On the other hand, reports suggested that at least three MLAs of the RJD flipped sides and sat in the area designated for the JD(U) legislators in the state Assembly. The switch could be one of the reasons why the NDA ended up securing four more votes than expected in its final tally of 129.

Bihar floor test Live Updates: The saga of ‘missing’ JD(U) MLAs

Before the trust vote, both, the BJP and the JD(U), huddled their MLAs at two separate hotels to watch over their flock. Meanwhile, MLAs of the RJD stayed at the Patna residence of former deputy chief minister and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nityanand Rai said that all 78 MLAs of the saffron party were staying at a hotel in Patna and would go straight to Vidhan Sabha for the trust vote. The JD(U) also got its 40 MLAs to stay at another hotel in Patna. However, the JD(U) remained skeptical over five of its MLAs missing the party meeting on Sunday, Indian Express reported.

Meanwhile, Congress remained worried on Sunday with some of its MLAs reportedly in touch with the BJP and JD(U) despite 16 of them being “herded” in Hyderabad for the past week. Three MLAs had reportedly stayed back in Bihar.

The NDA, which needs the support of 122 MLAs to smoothly sail through the trust vote, has the support of 128 MLAs.
