Bihar Election 2025 Voter Turnout Live Updates: Sitamarhi to Gaya, Bihar’s key constituencies gear up for phase 2 showdown

All arrangements are in place for the second phase of Bihar assembly polls, which will decide the fate of 1,302 candidates, including some senior leaders of the ruling NDA and opposition Mahagathbandhan. The polling will be held a day after a blast in Delhi in which eight people were killed. Speaking with ANI over the phone, Bihar Director General of Police Vinay Kumar said the state is on high alert. He said police teams have been put on alert at all borders adjoining Bihar, and intensive checking has also been carried out. He also urged voters to cast their votes in the second phase of the polling fearlessly and without any apprehension, assuring that the state has been on high alert for the past 72 hours because of the elections.

Polling parties along with their poll material were dispatched on Monday to their respective areas ahead of the second phase of polling in the Bihar Assembly elections. District Magistrate & Collector Manesh Kumar Meena announced that voting in Katihar will be held in all seven assembly constituencies from 7 AM to 6 PM on Tuesday. The second phase will decide the fate of 12 ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet. Among them are JD(U) leaders Vijendra Yadav (contesting from Supaul assembly constituency), Lesi Singh (Dhamdaha), Jayant Kushwaha (Amarpur), Sumit Singh (Chakai), Mohammad Jama Khan (Chainpur), and Sheela Mandal (Phoolparas). Ministers from the BJP in the fray include Prem Kumar (Gaya), Renu Devi (Bettiah), Vijay Kumar Mandal (Sikati), Nitish Mishra (Jhanjharpur), Neeraj Bablu (Chhatapur), and Krishnanandan Paswan (Harsiddhi).

A high alert has been sounded across poll-bound Bihar following the deadly explosion near the Red Fort metro station in Delhi on Monday that killed at least eight people, Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar said. The state police, already on high alert for the second and final phase of the assembly polls scheduled on November 11, has further tightened security across districts. Talking to PTI, Kumar said, “A high-security alert has been sounded across Bihar following the explosion near the Red Fort metro station.” “All wings of Bihar Police have been directed to maintain close watch and extraordinary vigil to thwart any attempt by anti-national elements by intensifying area domination patrolling and search operations,” he said.

Exit polls are conducted immediately after voters leave the polling booths. Survey teams stationed at selected locations ask people whom they voted for, keeping responses anonymous to ensure honesty. Agencies choose booths from both urban and rural areas to get a balanced sample. The data collected is later analysed to estimate vote shares and project seat counts. For Bihar’s Phase 2 elections, hundreds of surveyors will be deployed across constituencies like Purnia, Gaya Town, and Sitamarhi. The results will be shared on TV and social media after polling ends.

However, the Election Commission has made it clear that exit poll results cannot be aired or published before that time. The ban ensures fair polling and prevents any influence on voters during ongoing phases of the election.

RJD leader and INDIA bloc’s chief ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav has criticised the Election Commission for not releasing gender-wise voter turnout data even four days after the first phase of polling. He said the Commission should ensure transparency by making all relevant data public at the earliest. Opposition leaders have raised similar concerns, saying such information helps track voter participation more accurately. The Election Commission has not released constituency-wise gender data yet but is expected to do so after the final phase concludes on November 11.

Several key constituencies, including Purnia, Sitamarhi, Bettiah, Gaya Town, Kishanganj, Araria, Imamganj, Belaganj, and Jehanabad, are voting today in the second phase of Bihar elections. These seats are expected to witness close contests between the ruling NDA and the Opposition’s INDIA bloc. High voter turnout is being reported from many booths in the morning hours. Leaders from all major parties have urged voters to participate enthusiastically. The state police have identified 8,491 polling station locations as sensitive for the second phase of elections. Extra security personnel have been deployed at these booths to prevent any untoward incidents. Districts like Gaya, Aurangabad, and Bettiah have a higher number of such locations, where security forces are maintaining strict vigilance. Drone surveillance and real-time monitoring have also been arranged in vulnerable areas. Officials said all necessary steps are being taken to ensure free and fair voting across the 122 constituencies going to the polls today.

A total of 45,399 polling stations have been set up for the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections. Out of these, around 40,000 are in rural areas, while the rest are in urban centres. The Election Commission has deployed officials and polling staff well in advance to ensure everything runs smoothly.
