Bihar Election 2025 Highlights: ‘It is possible’, Prashant Kishor hints at fighting against Tejashwi Yadav

Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party will release its first list of candidates at 2 pm. The party invited journalists to attend the announcement on Wednesday evening. Around 100 candidates are expected to be named. This marks the first major election for the Jan Suraj Party, apart from four previous by-elections.

The Jan Suraaj Party, founded by former poll strategist Prashant Kishor, on Wednesday launched a crowdfunding campaign to fight the Bihar assembly elections to be held next month.

The party’s national president Uday Singh also claimed that the party moved the high court, accusing the NDA government in Bihar of being involved in corruption amounting to Rs 70,000 crore .

Bickering among the ruling NDA partners in Bihar over seat sharing has come to the fore, even though the BJP, which held a meeting on Wednesday on the issue, claimed that everything is fine in the alliance.

Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said that he was “requesting and not making a claim” that his Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) be given a respectable number of seats, otherwise the party might not contest the election.

Another Union minister Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which had earlier settled for around 20-22 seats, is now asking for at least 25 more.

The Congress top leadership discussed party candidates on Wednesday amid seat-sharing talks with ‘Mahagathbandhan’ allies. Sources told PTI that the party had now finalised the names of 25 candidates. Top leaders including Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi reportedly joined the deliberations virtually to select the party candidates at a meeting of the Central Election Committee.

“At the CEC meeting, we said those seats which are traditionally held by the Congress would remain with us…for which candidates have also been decided after deliberations. But, we will declare the names of candidates only after discussion with our alliance partners and also with our state leaders. We are happy with the seats discussed today at the CEC meeting… All top leaders agreed to our suggestions and candidates proposed by state leaders,” Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Ram told reporters.

“It is very good that the election dates have been announced. We were waiting for this. On 14 November, the NDA government will be formed again in Bihar under the leadership of Nitish Kumar,” Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh told ANI.

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has convened an emergency party meeting at its Patna office tomorrow to discuss the Bihar Assembly elections and organisational issues.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s estranged uncle and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party chief Pashupati Kumar Paras on Wednesday said his party will field candidates in all constituencies being contested by his nephew’s party, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

The RLJP chief made the announcement at the party’s parliamentary board meeting.

Paras had quit the Union Cabinet last year in protest against the BJP’s decision to accommodate Chirag in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

“Everything is fine in the Mahagathbandhan… If we have to form a government with Lalu Prasad’s ideology, a government of social justice, then we all have to make sacrifices, support each other, and struggle to build a better Bihar…We are united and by staying firmly with the Mahagathbandhan, we will form the government in Bihar… Our government will be formed in Bihar and Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav will be CM,” said Mukesh Sahni — National President of the Vikassheel Insaan Party.

Former Bihar minister Murari Prasad Gautam has resigned as MLA ahead of the assembly elections. Speculation is rife that he may join the BJP.

“There is no specific reason behind my resignation from the membership of the assembly. I just resigned,” Gautam told PTI.

He was elected to the assembly on Congress ticket.

Gautam was a minister in the Nitish Kumar government when the Mahagathbandhan was in power in the state. He started sitting with treasury bench members after the JD(U) returned to the NDA.

Following this, the Congress demanded his disqualification from the assembly. Petition seeking his disqualification is pending before before Speaker Nand Kishor Yadav.

According to reports, the BJP’s Election Committee meeting is still underway. There is no news or official confirmation about the seat sharing yet. Stay with us to get live coverage on the same.

According to news agency ANI, Congress will release chargesheet against the NDA Government in Bihar on Thursday at 2:00 pm. Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel will release the Chargesheet at Patna’s Congress office.

News agency ANI quoting sources said that today’s NDA meeting was a “protocol meet before the polls and also focused on poll strategy for the upcoming Bihar elections.” According to the report, BJP could finalise the list of candidates for most of its seats soon.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said that a meeting of party leaders will be held later in the day, which he will be attending virtually. “We are going to solve this. Today there is a meeting at 2.30 pm. I’m also attending the meeting virtually. We are sorting out…,” Kharge said while answering a question from media over seat sharing for Bihar polls.

When asked how many seats the Congress will contest, Kharge said, “We are not going to reveal how many seats we have decided now itself. In today’s meeting we will discuss those where we have to compromise and on which there are no differences. After 2.30 pm it will be known how many will be decided today, how many tomorrow.”

The outgoing Bihar Legislative Assembly met for 146 days in total, the lowest in its five-year term, according to a legislative think-tank. On average, the assembly met 29 days each year, and sessions lasted about three hours per day. In comparison, assemblies across other states in 2024 met for an average of five hours per sitting day, PRS Legislative said. Bihar will hold its assembly elections in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya says, “Once everything (on seat sharing) is finalised, you will be informed. It will be told after the meeting. No one is angry, everyone is happy and everyone will remain happy.”

Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh has been given ‘Y’ category security after intelligence reports warned of possible threats, officials said on Wednesday. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) VIP security wing will provide the protection. The Union Home Ministry recommended the high-level security based on these reports. Around four armed commandos will guard Singh during his movements in Bihar, where the assembly elections will take place in two phases on November 6 and 11.

CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya said that discussions on seat sharing are still underway and should be finalised in a day or two. He added that attacks on the judiciary, the constitution, and Dalits have become major concerns and will play an important role in the Bihar elections. Bhattacharya expressed confidence that these issues will encourage voters to support the INDIA alliance.

The BJP Election Committee meeting will be held shortly. Party leaders including Vinod Tawde, Dharmendra Pradhan, Giriraj Singh, and Dilip Jaiswal have all arrived. However, the Deputy CM is yet to arrive.

Bihar Minister Ashok Choudhary said the NDA is expected to achieve a historic victory, potentially surpassing its 2010 record. He also criticised Rahul Gandhi for not performing his duties seriously as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and said it would be significant if Pashupati Kumar Paras wins his election.

BJP leader Sanjay Jaiswal said the party regularly holds meetings and that he attended the election committee meeting. He added that party workers from all five NDA allies are working together to organise assembly-level conferences. Jaiswal expressed confidence that the NDA will win the Bihar elections after November 14 and form the government with a strong majority.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Wednesday said that the Congress has expressed a lack of confidence in Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership. He added that the alliance does not seem to trust Tejashwi’s abilities and appears to lack a clear vision or plan.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Wednesday paid tribute to his father and Lok Janshakti Party founder, Ram Vilas Paswan, on his death anniversary. He reaffirmed his commitment to his father’s vision of “Bihar First, Bihari First” and promised to continue working for the state’s all-round development.

In a message shared on X, Chirag said he remains devoted to fulfilling his father’s dreams for Bihar and sees it as his life’s purpose. He said the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections are a chance to realise those goals, give the state a new direction, and advance the legacy of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). He added that the entire party is united in its effort to make his father’s dream a reality in the coming polls.

The Election Commission on Wednesday said that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will also apply to the Central government when it comes to making announcements or policy decisions related to Bihar. The poll code came into effect right after the Election Commission announced the Bihar Assembly election schedule on Monday. The elections will take place on November 6 and 11, and the votes will be counted on November 14.

In its statement, the EC said, “The MCC shall also be applicable to the Central government so far as announcements/policy decisions for Bihar are concerned.” It also reminded that citizens’ privacy must be respected, and there should be no demonstrations or picketing outside private homes.

Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh said that Nitish Kumar will lead the NDA in the Bihar elections and that the alliance will soon announce its seat-sharing plan, according to media reports. He added that while the Mahagathbandhan is still unsure about its strategy and leadership, the NDA has a clear plan and direction for the polls.

BJP MLA Bhawna Bohra said that the people of Bihar will set a new record in the upcoming elections on November 14. She praised the NDA government’s consistent work, especially for women’s safety, youth welfare, and farmers’ support through schemes like Kisan Samman Nidhi. Bohra expressed confidence that the NDA will return to power once again.

Speaking on upcoming Bihar Elections, Minister Shravan Kumar said on Wednesday, “The leaders of the NDA alliance will find a solution of everything by discussions…Every person of a party keeps forward its views…”
