Karnataka, Bengaluru Floods Highlights: India’s IT hub, Bengaluru, has been witnessing devastation for the last couple of days. Constant heavy rains has led to floods and waterlogging which has brought misery to thousands and has caused much damage. In fact, drinking water supply was also affected due to flooding of pump houses in certain areas.

People residing in Bengaluru’s most high-end residential properties and well-known tech parks on Yemalur-Bellandur Road have been highly affected. The reason behind this is that the area lies between two lakes – Bellandur and Yemlur lakes- which have been overflowing for the past two-three days. Going by the forecast, its doesn’t seem like the situation can be controlled soon enough.

The Meteorological Centre in Bengaluru has predicted more thunderstorms and rains in the city on Wednesday. The forecast said that areas including Belagavi, Bagalkote, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chickbalapura and Kolar districts are likely to be affected by heavy downpour.

Bengaluru Rains Live: E-com firms, delivery boys face harrowing time due to floods

E-commerce companies, especially their delivery boys, had a harrowing time to supply products to the customers when certain parts of Bengaluru was under deluge due to two days of heavy rains in parts of the city, PTI reported. The flooded areas such as parts of Sarjapura, Bellandur, Varthur, Whitefield and Outer Ring Road had become inaccessible due to water-logging. In view of the flood situation, these e-commerce companies had suspended their services for some time. An executive of a leading e-commerce company told PTI they had to suspend services in certain places as it was not possible for anyone to reach there.

Bengaluru South Lok Sabha member Tejasvi Surya was trolled and criticised by a section of social media users accusing him of relishing dosa and promoting an eatery in his constituency, when many parts of the city have been reeling under torrential rains and floods. In a 40-second video that has gone viral, the National President of BJP Yuva Morcha can be seen eating 'Butter Masala Dosa' and 'Uppittu' (Upma) at an eatery in Padmanabhanagar and praising its quality and taste. He also recommended it to people asking them to come and taste the food there. There is no mention as to when the video was shot. However, Congress' national social media co-coordinator Lavanya Ballal said the video is said to be dated September 5, when most parts of the city were flooded. (PTI)

Bengaluru Rains Live: Karnataka HC told all lakes in Bengaluru to have sluice gates

The division bench of the Karnataka HC headed by Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe was hearing a public interest litigation about the alleged “poor management” of roads by the BBMP. During the hearing, the BBMP advocate informed the court about the steps being taken to prevent flooding in the city, reported PTI. The court was told that all the lakes in Bengaluru will have sluice gates installed.
