A porter was killed, and five others, including three soldiers, were injured on Thursday when terrorists attacked an Army vehicle in the Gulmarg area of Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials.
The attack occurred near the Nagin post at Botapathri, where terrorists opened fire on the vehicle. One porter lost his life, and four soldiers were wounded in the assault. The injured soldiers were quickly transported to a hospital for treatment.
Earlier the same day, a labourer from Uttar Pradesh was shot and injured by terrorists in the Tral area of Pulwama district. Fortunately, he sustained only minor injuries.
Thursday’s attack took place in Gulmarg, a region typically free from militancy and popular with tourists. The area, including Botapathri and its surrounding upper reaches, is known for its scenic beauty and attracts many nature lovers.
In a statement, Baramulla police said: “An exchange of fire occurred between security forces and terrorists in the Butapathri sector of Baramulla district, near the Nagin post. Further details will be shared after verifying the facts.”
Just a few days earlier, on Sunday, terrorists launched a brutal attack on workers from a private infrastructure company in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal district. The assault, carried out by two foreign terrorists, resulted in the deaths of seven people, including six non-local workers and a local doctor.
The victims were unarmed labourers involved in the construction of a tunnel at Z-Morh on the Srinagar-Leh national highway. Once completed, this tunnel would transform the Srinagar-Sonamarg road into an all-weather route and make Sonamarg a year-round tourist destination. The project also holds promise for boosting the local economy and providing employment opportunities for youth in the region.
The Gagangir attack drew widespread condemnation from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister for Roads and Highways Nitin Gadkari, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, and several political leaders, including Omar Abdullah, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
