Ever wanted to meet the Queen of England? Well, a host of star-studded celebrities from India got an opportunity to rub shoulders with the Queen herself! And don’t we all know that not everyone can get to do that? On February 28th, the Queen launched the UK-India Year of Culture – an initiative to further strengthen the ties between the two countries. The Year of Culture aims to celebrate the 70th anniversary of India’s independence through a year-long programme of events and exhibitions.
The inauguration was followed by a grand, star-studded reception at the Buckingham palace. A special projection was designed for the front of Buckingham Palace to mark the start of the 2017 UK-India Year of Culture. The design featured a peacock design and blended in dance motifs, representing the country’s diverse and rich culture.
We love our vibrant colours and beautiful dances, In fact, so do the heads of other countries. So, if Queen Elizabeth herself is showcasing India’s vibrant colors and cultural motifs – maybe we need to find inspiration there and take pride in it too! After all, we Indians prefer to follow ‘Western’ trends and we take our own more seriously only when the West praises it!
Among the celebrities who met the Queen, there is Tamil Nadu’s ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan and Kerala cinema’s super star-turned-Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi who told Onmanorama news reporters that his interaction with the Queen is one of the most cherished moments in his life. More interestingly, Suresh Gopi said that the Queen asked about his saffron-coloured suit and commented that it looks ”very nice.”
Actors Kamal Haasan and Suresh Gopi had attended the event as part of the delegation led by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
