Delhi Elections 2025: The national capital is set for a three-cornered contest in the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress locking horns for power. As AAP aims for a third consecutive term, the BJP and Congress are making aggressive bids to reclaim political ground in the city.
With the election date approaching, several high-profile candidates have emerged in key constituencies. Here are some key CM contenders in the upcoming assembly polls:
Arvind Kejriwal (AAP)
Delhi’s former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is contesting from the New Delhi constituency, a seat he has retained for the last three elections. He first won the seat in 2013, defeating then-CM Sheila Dikshit. This time, he faces tough competition from BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit.
Sandeep Dikshit (Congress)
Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, is challenging Kejriwal in New Delhi. A two-time MP, Dikshit has previously served as the Congress’ national spokesperson and is expected to play a crucial role in reviving the party’s presence in Delhi.
Parvesh Verma (BJP)
The BJP has fielded two-time MP Parvesh Verma to challenge Kejriwal in New Delhi. Verma, a prominent Jat leader and son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, has deep ties with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His entry into the contest adds a significant dimension to the electoral battle.
Atishi (AAP)
Delhi’s current Chief Minister Atishi will contest from the Kalkaji constituency, where she previously won in the 2020 elections. She faces competition from BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress’ Alka Lamba. Atishi has been a key strategist for AAP and is expected to play a critical role in the party’s re-election campaign.
Alka Lamba (Congress)
Alka Lamba, the chief of the All India Mahila Congress, will contest from Kalkaji against AAP’s Atishi. Lamba previously won the Chandni Chowk seat in 2015 as an AAP candidate before switching to the Congress in 2019. She is among the prominent faces Congress is banking on to revive its electoral fortunes.
The polling will take place on February 5 and votes are set to be counted on February 8 for the Delhi polls.
