Uttar Pradesh Exports: The exports from Uttar Pradesh under the government’s ‘One District One Product (ODOP) initiative have increased 250 times in the past five years, said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at an event Uttar Pradesh Grand Convention organised by Laghu Udyog Bharti in Agra, ANI reported. “We made a BIMARU state like Uttar Pradesh economically prosperous with the hard work of these entrepreneurs,” the chief minister said during his address on Wednesday.

Launched in 2018 by the UP government, the ODOP scheme aims to identify a unique product from every district of the state, in order to promote small businesses associated with the manufacturing, marketing and sales of the local industry. After its success, the scheme was extended by the central government across India.

According to the data from the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics, UP’s exports have grown from $16.24 billion during 2018-19 to $21.68 billion during 2022-23. In 2022-23, the US was the largest export market for the state with a value of $4.1 billion followed by UAE ($1.8 billion), Germany ($1.24 billion) and the UK ($1.22 billion).

As of 2022-23, the state’s exports were led by telecom products worth $4.42 billion followed by buffalo meat ($1.8 billion), cotton ($993 million), manmade fibres ($849 million), footwear ($779 million), iron & steel ($713 million), aluminium products ($705 million), sugar ($640 million), carpet ($592 million) and also in machinery for dairy ($527 million), according to the data reported by the Trade Promotion Council of India in August this year.

Signifying the potential of the state’s exports, CM Yogi Adityanath mentioned that out of the yearly exports of carpet from India worth Rs 17,000 crores, three districts of UP: Bhadohi, Mirzapur, and Varanasi constitute exports worth Rs 10,000 crore per year, the report by ANI said.

Mentioning the changes in the state’s MSME Policy 2020, CM Yogi stated that the need for an NOC has been removed by the state government for up to a thousand days, easing out business operations in the state.

In September this year, the UP government had organised an International Trade Expo in Greater Noida where more than 75,000 B2B export orders were secured by the participating businesses during the five-day event. President Droupadi Murmu during the event’s inauguration in Noida had stated that Uttar Pradesh ranked first among all the states in the country with more than 96 lakh MSMEs.
