The National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI’s) logistics subsidiary has signed an agreement to develop a 400-acre multimodal logistics park (MMLP) at Bengaluru at a cost of Rs 1,770 crore. The agreement for the park was signed between a Government SPV, Bengaluru MMLP & Concessionaire SPV PATH Bengaluru Logistics Park.
Government SPV is incorporated between NHAI’s subsidiary National Highways Logistics Management (NHLML), Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) and Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).“The MMLP is being developed in an area of 400 acres at Muddelinganahalli in Bengaluru rural district in Karnataka. The project is poised to become the first and largest MMLP ever implemented in the country under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan,” a statement said.
The MMLP will be developed in three phases and the first phase is expected to be completed in two years.“MMLP will cater to about 30 million metric tonne (MMT) cargo by the end of the concession period of 45 years and will give a huge boost to the industrial zones in the catchment region such as Bengaluru and Tumkur,” the statement added.
Bengaluru MMLP is located at a distance of 58 km from Bengaluru airport and 48 km from Bengaluru city railway station. To facilitate seamless logistics movement, the site is strategically located adjacent to the upcoming KIADB industrial area on east side, abutting NH648, Dabbaspet to Hosur as well as Satellite Town Ring Road on north side and Bengaluru – Hubli – Mumbai rail line on south side.Under the Bharatmala Project, NHLML has been mandated to develop 35 multimodal logistics parks around the country wherever possible with public-private partnership. Government’s share in the development of these parks is estimated to be Rs 50,000 crore.
Bengaluru logistics is the fourth logistics park to be awarded under the plan. Others are located in Chennai and Indore. The park at Jogighopa near Guwahati in Assam is under implementation at the cost of Rs 693 crore and is expected to be completed this year.Development of MMLP is a key initiative of the government of India to improve the country’s freight logistics sector by enabling efficient inter-modal freight movement to lower overall freight costs and time, provide efficient warehousing, improve tracking and traceability of consignments thereby enhancing the efficiency of the Indian logistics sector.
