Ahead of the much-anticipated Mahakumbh 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is pushing forward with large-scale infrastructure development in Prayagraj. The focus is on road widening and beautification projects aimed at enhancing the overall experience for the millions of devotees expected to visit the city.
Key projects, especially those involving the widening and improvement of roads leading to the Sangam, are nearing completion. The authorities have set a clear deadline for these efforts, with the work expected to be completed by November 30, ensuring smooth access for visitors.
Vivek Chaturvedi, the Additional Mela Officer, emphasised that, with the collaboration of the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) and the Cantonment Board, major road projects connecting the city to Sangam are in the final stages. Roads such as Triveni Road, Lal Sadak, Kali Sadak, and Naval Rai Road are all being widened, with the capacity more than doubling compared to the previous Kumbh Mela. The expanded roads will not only ensure smoother traffic flow but also enhance the visual appeal, contributing to a better overall experience for devotees.
Given the massive scale of Mahakumbh 2025, which is expected to attract around 40 crore people—almost one and a half to two times the number from the last Kumbh—ensuring adequate infrastructure is a top priority for the government.
To further accommodate the growing number of pilgrims, interlocking footpaths are being installed on both sides of these roads, ensuring the convenience and safety of visitors. Construction work on Triveni Road, linking Prayagraj Junction to Sangam, and the River Front Road in Daraganj is also nearing completion, further bolstering the accessibility to the key spiritual destination.
Additionally, the government is working to ensure proper signage and guidance for visitors. Hoardings and signboards will be placed along the newly widened roads and at key intersections, providing vital information about the major tourist and religious sites. Information centres will also be set up across the city for ease of access, catering to the needs of the devotees.
With these extensive preparations underway, Prayagraj is gearing up to host one of the largest spiritual events in the world, ensuring a smooth and spiritually enriching experience for the devotees attending Mahakumbh 2025.
