The South Western Railway (SWR) has announced that it garnered a gross revenue of Rs 4,288.27 crore during April to October, marking a 10.44% increase compared to the same period in the previous year when it earned Rs 3,882.93 crore.

According to SWR’s statement, the revenue from originating passenger services for the six-month period amounted to Rs 1,801.68 crore, representing a significant growth of 15.20 percent compared to the revenue of Rs 1,563.97 crore in the April to October 2022 period. Additionally, SWR reported originating freight revenue of Rs 2,741.40 crore, reflecting an 11.66% increase. This growth was achieved through the transportation of 27.49 million tons of freight from April to October 2023, compared to Rs 2,455.14 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

SWR attributed the increased freight business to its dedicated marketing efforts by business development units within its divisions and the efforts of its operations and maintenance staff, which has led to the timely supply of wagons and improved asset reliability.

Additionally, SWR noted that the doubling and electrification of its routes have contributed to reduced transit times for goods trains, leading to improved mobility and reliability in its services.
