Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (April 6) flagged off Indian Railways’ first train service across the newly inaugurated Pamban Bridge. PM Modi launched the first train from Tambaram to Rameswaram today. Ahead of its flag-off ceremony, the train was all decked up with flowers at the Mandapam Railway Station. The prime minister Modi also inaugurated India’s first vertical lift sea bridge, the New Pamban Bridge, today. 

The express train, connecting Tambaram and Rameswaram, will be operated by the Southern Railway zone. Tambaram-Rameswaram Express began its commercial operations from April 6, soon after the flagging off ceremony. The service will operate under train numbers 16103/16104, covering a distance of 618 km in approximately 11 hours and 30 minutes.

Train 16103 (Tambaram–Rameswaram Express) will depart Tambaram at 18:10 hrs and reach Rameswaram at 05:40 hrs. In the reverse direction, train 16104 will leave Rameswaram at 16:00 hrs and arrive at Tambaram at 03:45 hrs.

En route, the train will halt at several stations, including Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tiruppadiripuliyur, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Thiruthuraipoondi, Pattukottai, Aranthangi, Karaikudi, Sivaganga, Manamadurai, Paramakkudi, and Ramanathapuram.

The train composition includes: 1 AC Two-Tier Coach, 5 AC Three-Tier Coaches, 6 Sleeper Class Coaches, 4 General Second Class Coaches, 1 Second Class Divyangjan-Friendly Coach and 1 Luggage cum Brake Van. 

Rameswaram-Tambaram Express ticket booking and fare

According to a report in ET Now, ticket bookings for the Tambaram-Rameswaram Express have started. Tickets can be purchased via the IRCTC website or at counters. Sleeper Class fares are Rs 350, AC 3-Tier is Rs 950, and AC 2-Tier is Rs 1,355.
