In a first-of-its-kind move, Central Railway has introduced an automated teller machine (ATM) inside the Mumbai–Manmad Panchavati Express, aiming to boost onboard passenger convenience, PTI reported.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the innovation on his official X account, showcasing a passenger using the Bank of Maharashtra ATM while the train was in motion.

The ATM has been installed in the air-conditioned chair car coach of the daily express train. According to Central Railway’s CPRO Swapnil Nila, the machine is part of a trial run and will be accessible to passengers soon.
It has been fitted in a specially designed cubicle at the rear of the coach, previously a temporary pantry, equipped with a shutter door for safety and ease of access. The required structural changes were carried out at the Manmad Railway Workshop.
The Panchavati Express, which connects Mumbai’s CSMT to Manmad Junction in Nashik district, is a popular intercity service that covers the distance in just over four and a half hours. If the pilot proves successful, the Railways may consider rolling out onboard ATM services on other major routes as well.
