The redevelopment of the Kalka Railway Station in Haryana is covered under the government’s ambitious ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’. The initiative is set to transform and breathe new life into 1309 railway stations across India.
A glimpse of the redeveloped Kalka Railway Station
On Tuesday, the Indian Railways took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a glimpse of what the Kalka Railway Station would look like after its redevelopment. It shared a before and after picture of the station. It also said that after the redevelopment, Kalka Railway Station will offer modern facilities for its passengers’ comfort and convenience. “The proposed design portrays an amalgamation of local heritage & culture in its architecture,” it added.
The Kalka Railway Station is the starting point of the 96-kilometre heritage Kalka-Shimla railway track which is UNESCO protected.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 6, 2023, laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country. These stations will be redeveloped at a cost of more than Rs 24,470 crores. Of these 508 stations, 55 are in Uttar Pradesh, 55 in Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 each in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 each in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana, 13 in Karnataka among others.
The 15 railway stations in Haryana which will be redeveloped are Ambala City, Bhiwani Junction, Faridabad, Pataudi Road, Hisar, Bahadurgarh, Jind Junction, Narwana Junction, Narnaul, Kalka, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat and Yamunanagar-Jagadhri.
