A gas cylinder was discovered on the tracks of the Roorkee-Laksar railway route, officials said on Sunday, prompting a police investigation. The incident occurred near Dhandhera railway station at around 6:45 am on Saturday when the guard of a BCN goods train noticed the cylinder lying on the second railway line.

Laksar GRP (Government Railway Police) in-charge Sanjay Sharma confirmed that at the time of the discovery, no trains were scheduled to pass through the affected route, averting a potential mishap.

Swapan Kishore, Haridwar Superintendent of Police (Rural), informed that the cylinder found was a small, three-kilogram unit lying in the middle of the track near Roorkee. Upon receiving the information, teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local police promptly reached the site and secured the cylinder.

Upon examination, it was confirmed that the cylinder was empty. Kishore further mentioned that a case has been registered against unknown persons under relevant sections of The Railways Act at Roorkee Civil Line Police Station.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident to determine how the cylinder ended up on the tracks and whether any foul play was involved. While no immediate danger was posed due to the cylinder being empty and no train passing at the time, the presence of such an object on the railway lines has raised concerns about potential sabotage or criminal intent.

The incident remains under investigation as police work to identify those responsible.
