As Cyclone Fengal is expected to make landfall in Tamil Nadu this evening, EMU train services in the Suburban sections of the Chennai division will operate at reduced frequency intervals, as per a statement released by the Southern Railway Chennai Division PRO. All the necessary precautionary measures have been executed to ensure passenger safety during the cyclone passage.
The adverse weather conditions by the cyclone have also affected air travel. Several flights to and from Chennai have been impacted because of the continuing intense rains. Travel advisories have been issued by the airlines including Indigo and Air India. Flyers were informed about delays and cancellations of the flights.
Air India has confirmed through a social media post that their flights to and from Chennai are affected because of the rough weather. Similarly, Indigo has also informed its passengers that their flights are impacted and the cyclone’s effects have been extended to its operations in Chennai, Madurai, Tirupati, Tuticorin, Tiruchirappalli, and Visakhapatnam.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has also predicted heavy showers for the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu for today because of the cyclone’s effect. Similarly, isolated intense spells are predicted to occur over Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Pondicherry. Moreover, heavy downpours might take place across Tamil Nadu, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai and Vellore. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also assured that it has been continuously keeping a watch on Cyclone Fengal by utilizing advanced Doppler radars stationed in Chennai and Sriharikota along with satellite observations. Residents and travellers are advised to stay aware of the updates and give preference to safety as the cyclone advances.
