The Northeast Frontier Railway will be seeing the redevelopment of 92 stations under its jurisdiction with world-class modern amenities and facilities. This redevelopment will be done as part of the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, Chief Public Relations Officer Northeast Frontier Railway said.
Besides this, Rs 10,369 crore had been set aside in the interim Budget 2024-25 to enhance rail facilities in the zone. Kaliyaganj railway station in North Bengal, a key station in the Katihar division of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), is receiving a major upgrade as part of a redevelopment scheme with an estimated investment of Rs 24.87 crore, according to the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO).
Kaliyaganj railway station caters to extensive regions of the North Dinajpur district in West Bengal. Currently, approximately 62 percent of the overall physical progress has been made on the various ongoing and proposed redevelopment projects for the station.
A significant achievement has recently been reached with the completion of a 12-meter-wide foot-over bridge (FOB) at Kaliyaganj station. This modern FOB is designed to improve passenger mobility and safety, featuring durable infrastructure and an ergonomic design to support future expansions, according to a statement from the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO).
In addition to this, ongoing development works at the station include enhancements to passenger platform sheds, platform surfacing, and the station facade, which will feature local art and cultural sculptures. The revamped station will feature improved building structures, better circulation areas, and comfortable seating for passengers, as well as modern lifts and escalators to facilitate connectivity within the station. A second entry point is also under development.
Beyond the foot-over bridge, the station will offer additional passenger amenities, including facilities for differently-abled individuals, modernizing the entire station premises. Adequate lighting and signage will be installed to ensure the station is safe and easily accessible for all passengers, according to the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO).
