The traffic in south and central Delhi will take a hit for about six hours till 11 am on Sunday due to the upcoming Half Marathon, as per an advisory. 

The police have said that over 35,000 participants are expected to compete in the Delhi Half Marathon. The marathon will be flagged off at around 4.45 am from the  Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The Half Marathon Open and Police Cup (21.09 km) will commence at 5 am from JLN Stadium. The Elite Athlete Men’s and Women’s Half Marathon (Indian and international participants) will begin at 6:50 am. from the JLN Stadium Complex. The Open 10K race will start at 7:30 am from the Jeevan Deep Building on Sansad Marg, according to the advisory.

Delhi half marathon: Delhi Metro timings

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has said that it will commence its train services at 03:15 am from terminal stations of all lines except the Airport Express Line and Grey Line – Dhansa Bus Stand to Dwarka.

Train services will run every 15 minutes between 3:15 am and 4 am, and every 20 minutes from 4 am to 6 am. After 6 am, services will follow the regular Sunday schedule on all lines, according to DMRC officials.

Some specific metro stations will have volunteers deployed by the marathon organisers. These metro stations include JLN Stadium, Jor Bagh, Janpath, Jangpura and Rajiv Chowk.

The event organiser is covering the travel expenses for participants of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2024, ensuring transportation to and from the event venue. To facilitate this, DMRC has provided the necessary QR tickets based on the applicable metro fare.

Delhi half marathon: Traffic restrictions

Traffic will be regulated from 4:45 am to 11 am, though emergency vehicles will have uninterrupted access. Cross-traffic at junctions along the route will be permitted based on the location and the number of participants, according to the advisory.

Traffic diversions will be implemented as needed at several key points, including the fourth Avenue-Bhisham Pitamaha Marg junction under the Sewa Nagar flyover, Kotla traffic signal, Sewa Nagar traffic signal, Jor Bagh Colony Road, Aurobindo Marg-Lodhi Road junction, Subramaniam Bharti Marg-Max Mueller Marg junction, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Mathura Road-Bhairon Road junction, the Man Singh Road roundabout, Janpath-Maulana Azad Road junction, the Gurudwara Rakabganj roundabout, Sansad Marg-Outer Circle junction, and Tilak Marg-C Hexagon junction, among others.

Commuters are advised to avoid these roads and junctions during the event and use alternate routes, as this is a celebration of fitness through the Delhi Half Marathon, the advisory added.
