One of the best know ambassadors of “Brand India” and Tata Group’s brightest star is no more. We bid adieu to Industrialist, philanthropist and a visionary, Ratan Tata, who left an indelible mark not just on the Conglomerate that Tata has become today but also Brand India and what Indian industries stand for globally.
The legend that he was, the rule book was never for him. The man who worked up the ranks at the Tata Steel shopfloor, compassion ranked higher than cost metrics and his humility and integrity is what set him apart. Recipient of the the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honour as well as the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian honour in 2000, Tata succeeded JRD Tata as chairman of Tata Sons in 1991. He was instrumental in putting the Tata Group prominently on the global map- from acquiring internationally renowned brands like Jaguar Land Rover to Corus Steel to being the brain behind the people’s car, Nano.
That apart he has been instrumental in making India a hub for startups, backing more than 30 startups with his personal wealth including the likes of Snapdeal to Teabox to CashKaro, the list continues…
But Tata was not just a man known for his sharp business acumen. His compassion and love for animals is part of corporate folklore now. The Tata Trusts’ Small Animal Hospital was his dream project and the last that he worked on. From cancelling an appointment with UK’s King Charles to care for his sick dogs Tito and Tango to building a whopping 165-crore,state-of-the-art hospital for pets, he truly championed the cause of care and concern for animals.
