Zomato and its acquired quick commerce company, Blinkit, had a humorous social media exchange that has garnered a lot of attention as India celebrates Raksha Bandhan.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Zomato wished Blinkit. The post read, “Happy rakhi adopted sis, @letsblinkit,” along with a kiss emoji. To which, Blinkit replied, “Adopted nahi acquired hota haiâ€æitna bada hogaya pata nahi kab seekhega (Not adopted but acquired. You have grown up but still haven’t learnt this).”
Albinder Dhindsa and Saurabh Kumar founded Blinkit in 2013, which was earlier known as Grofers. Zomato acquired Blinkit in 2022 for a total of $568 million in an all-stock deal. Blinkit was backed by SoftBank, Tiger Global and Sequoia Capital India (now Peak XV Partners).
The food delivery giant Zomato recently reported consolidated net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2024, at Rs 253 crore. The company’s quick commerce division, Blinkit, had a 145 per cent year-over-year increase in revenues to Rs 942 crore, with adjusted EBITDA of Rs -3 crore within the same period.
Zomato-owned quick commerce platform Blinkit on Saturday launched an international order service for the country with an aim to facilitate Indian expatriates sending presents and Rakhis to their siblings. The company said in a statement that the international order service on the platform, which was announced on Raksha Bandhan, remains accessible till August 19. Customers living in the United States, Germany, Netherlands, Japan, France and Canada can avail the service.
