Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Thursday announced that Nestle’s Maggi brand of noodles is being banned in the state as a precautionary step in the wake of reports that the product contains harmful ingredients.
“According to the inspection, there are ingredients in large quantities, which are harmful for health. After the final opinion, we will comment. But, as of now, we have banned it as a precaution,” Rawat told ANI here.
Several other states like Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory Delhi have also banned Maggi.
Big retailers like Big Bazar have already withdrawn Maggi packets from their outlets.
A case was lodged earlier against Nestle India by the UP food regulator FSDA in a local court at Bara banki in Uttar Pradesh over safety standards of its Maggi.
